Davis Cup selection going forward
I'm not sure if this should be a new thread - but what do you all think about our team selection for 2006 Regional Davis Cup? It seems that there are two distinct options: 1. We continue to select two specialist doubles players in LP/MB and the best two available singles players. 2. Per Mahesh's rec...

Davis Cup 2005 (WG playoff vs SWE in India!)
If Rohan can serve aces like he did on Friday and cut down on double faults, he might have a chance of winning three sets in tiebreaker after losing the first two sets. Not in Davis Cup, because there is no tie-break in the 5th set of a match in Davis Cup unless it is a dead rubber (and those are u...

ATP Tennis/Non-India Davis Cup
Roddick Vs Olivier Rochus should be a good contest considering that the tie is played on Clay. I support Olivier Rochus wherever he plays, simply on the grounds that he is 5'5" tall, and I like the fact that there is at least one major tennis player out there who is shorter than me. :D Does my...

Carling Bassett is Canadian, while Robert Seguso is American.PKBasu wrote:Flach and Seguso were one of the top doubles players in their time, and of course most of us remember Carling Bassett. My understanding is that both father and mother were Canadian, although their kid seems to be an American.

The only reason to consider clay is that it is the only way to ensure that LP-MB would win the doubles tie. I seriously do not think that they would necessarily win on a bad grass court - which has ALWAYS been their worst surface. Exactly my point. The fact that we have had singles success on grass...

Its also worth remembering that LP-MB play well on clay. If that proves to be the Swedes worst surface, it is probably our best bet.

FWIW, I believe that Henman has retired from Davis Cup & is no longer available to Great Britain. Their team would probaby consist of Rusedski & Arvind Parmar on singles. I would consider them one of the more beatable teams in the playoffs. I mostly agree with Jaydeep's list, except that I t...
