Re: Women's World Championship 2017, Tehran

The eight game was a draw too. Score 4-4. Now on to the last nerve wrecking decisive Armageddon game. White has to win this game or lose the match. Black only need to draw. Harika plays with white.

Re: Women's World Championship 2017, Tehran

Tie-breaker is going on. So far the score is 3.5-3.5. Except the last game, the white has been winning all the time in this match. In the 7th game Harika with black was able to hold Tan. Now in the eight game Harika plays with white. Will this be a decisive game? The game is on. We'll know in few mi...

Re: Women's World Championship 2017, Tehran

Playing with white, Harika did come strongly! What a comeback! Once again match goes into tie-breaker, which has become a norm for Harika. Harika is the only player who did not get any rest day so far as she has played on every day of the tournament. Hopefully she'll continue to play all the ...

Re: Women's World Championship 2017, Tehran

Not a good start by Harika :( She went down against Zhongyi Tan playing with black to trail 0-1 after the first game. This is the first time she is trailing in this tournament. In the other semifinal, Anna Muzychuk with black color beat former world champ Alexandra Kosteniuk. Except Alexandra, all o...

Re: Women's World Championship 2017, Tehran

Four rounds and four tie-breakers! Anyway, once again she is in Semis! Now a milestone round as she tries to become second Indian after Humpy to reach finals. The top seed Chinese Ju Wenjun is out as she was beaten by other Chinese Zhongyi in quarters, who incidentally also stopped the run of Padmin...

Re: Women's World Championship 2017, Tehran

Finally, Harika wins in a regular game. Hopefully she gets at least a draw to win the match too in regular games. Go Harika!

Re: Women's World Championship 2017, Tehran

This time games extended to second tie-breaker for both Harika and Padmini. Unfortunately, Padmini (2½-3½) could not pull another upset while Harika (3½ - 2½) once again made it to the 4th round. Although Padmini took the 1st tie-break game, but couldn't hold on in second and lost and moved to the n...

Re: Women's World Championship 2017, Tehran

Good to see someone started this thread. I thought about it but I've been too lazy. Thanks Suresh! Yeah! A good surprise start from Padmini Rout. She is in last 16 now. But life doesn't get any easy now. She vanquished one Chinese, but here comes another. And if she does manage to upset this one, an...

Re: Tata Steel (Corus) Chess - Masters - 2017

Adhiban continues to play strong against strong players in this strong tournament. Today he played against Carlsen with black but did not let Carlsen take any advantage and held him for a comfortable draw. Adhiban must be loving Tata Steel Chess as he won the Challenger last time and he has done rea...

Re: Tata Steel (Corus) Chess - Masters - 2017

Adhiban has been playing very strong. His only blemish so far has been a loss to Hari. After that he has won 3 times. Adhiban beat Karjakin (Remember Karjakin - who challenged Carlsen in the World Championship last year. ) So far, Adhiban's record in this tournament 1 Van Wely 2695 ½ w +0.6 Tata Ste...

Re: Candidates/World Championship Tournament 2016

I'm not surprised by Karjakin at all. He has the distinction of being the youngest EVER grandmaster at the age of 12. In fact sometime back during a discussion in this forum I did include Karjakin in my list of players who can challenge Carlsen. He is just 26 and more than half of his age, he has be...

Re: Candidates/World Championship Tournament 2016

First rapid game is a draw. I'm cheering for Karjakin too. I guess most of the Indians must be cheering for Karjakin.

No fireworks in 11th and the World Championship is into the last game. Carlsen has white and he is going to press for a win and avoid tie-breaker.
