Re: Billie Jean King Cup (previously Fed Cup) - India
^^^ I think Xinyu Wang is #43 in the world. Nevertheless, the ball striking of Sahaja is a decent match to Wang. However, Wang is the more athletic player. The red clay looks pretty good as well.

Re: Roland Garros Claycourt Run-Up Tournaments 2024
I didn't realise Leander was in the top 100 only for 36 weeks. Always thought it was more. Likewise. Perhaps because he always played like a top 100 player in Davis Cup and in national colors. He also spent a very long time in the 100-150 range (from 1994-98) for nearly 200 weeks before breaking in...

Re: Roland Garros Claycourt Run-Up Tournaments 2024
Leander's parents were sportsmen but I suppose they did not make money that way. His father was a doctor too. However, at those times, their private wealth was not perhaps enough to pay for him to train and travel. He was not really poor though he may have had to skimp while traveling as a young pl...

Re: Roland Garros Claycourt Run-Up Tournaments 2024
Somdev was in the top 100 for around 85 weeks with an injury in between and at the end. Yuki came back from injury twice to make top 100 but for only 37 weeks before having a third injury which ended his singles career. Prajnesh got into the top 100 at age 29 and was there for 37 weeks before fallin...

Akshay Bhatia wins the Valero Texas Open for his first full field PGA tour victory. Get's him into the Masters and moves him into WR of #34.
This was also a wire-to-wire win even though it got very close in the end. He is still on trajectory to be among a generational great....

Re: Roland Garros Claycourt Run-Up Tournaments 2024
Good luck to Sumit against Rune! Rune was the finalist in Monte Carlo in 2023 beating Medvedev and Sinner along the way before losing to Rublev in the final. So, he can clearly play on these courts. In their previous match in the Davis Cup in 2023, Sumit lost in two competitive sets. Sumit has reall...

Re: Roland Garros Claycourt Run-Up Tournaments 2024
In this red clay run Sumit is 3-1 against players ranked 55-99. And all these players are regular clay courters. More impressively, he is 2-1 against players ranked between 55-63 (and 5-3 in sets). Those are the results of someone playing top 50 level tennis on red clay. So, he has a chance against ...

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Nagal should be at another career high next week. He is currently #91 in the live rankings but can still be over taken by Garin and Berretini, so should be no worse 93 for next week. Well Berretini won the Marrakech tournament, so best ranking this week for Sumit is #92. However, there is someone p...

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
I thought a qualifier got the 30 points plus whatever points you earned in the MD. So a qualifier who loses in R1 should get 40 points, losing in R2 would get 80 points and so on. The general atp ranking table for 2024 (which is revised from 2023) is at https://www.itftennis.com/media/11846/2024-atp...

Re: Marrakech ATP 250, Morocco (Clay), April 2024
Overall a good tournament for Sumit although he could have gone a step further. Prior to this week, he was 2-14 at ATP and Masters main draw matches, so going 1-1 (and almost winning a second match) this week is a substantial improvement for him. Of course, he has a 2-4 record in GS main draws and h...

Re: Houston ATP 250 (Clay), ATP, April 2024
We are assured of an SF team. The winners of these two QF matches play each other, so we could have a finalist Indian team if VSP/Ani win their match. I think that would guarantee at least one Indian in the final as the other semi finalist will come from a QF that has at least one Indian on each si...

Re: Marrakech ATP 250, Morocco (Clay), April 2024
Worth noting that Sumit Nagal made it into the Tokyo Olympics with a ranking of #144. In 2016, the cutoff was #101, so perhaps Covid impacted the participation in Tokyo 2020. Safest way would be get into the top 56 eligible while respecting the maximum 4 per country, so that number well be in the 70s.

Re: Indian Premier League (IPL)
Please rest Mayank Yadav for second leg of IPL and directly pitchfork him into T20 WC! Siraj may be saying good bye to the spot in T20WC. My biggest worry is that he may be worn out after playing all this IPL matches. Pace guy with this control that early in his career is just unbelievable. Not sur...

Re: Marrakech ATP 250, Morocco (Clay), April 2024
Nice win and confidence booster for Sumit to beat a solid clay courter at the ATP level. He has a chance against Sonego against whom he was absolutely even through 2 sets in the fast hard courts of Dubai. He lost the third set easily but I recall reading that he picked up a niggle in the 3rd set. Go...
