Re: Indian Badminton Thread ...

sameer - we should use the same scale for both pairs. Tanisha/Ashwini are 19th and Treesa/Gayatri are 27 in race to paris. After removing pairs who are ineligible, the former are 11. Do you know why Tanisha/Ashwini got so many points for this tournament? Seems like they won points because of India g...

Re: Indian Table Tennis Thread ...

Sreeja did win but this was a terrible performance from the team and doesn't bode well for R32. Sreeja has now lost 3 in a row to top-100ish level players after beating the world #2 in straights.

Re: Indian Table Tennis Thread ...

@sameer do you know who we will play in the women, assuming we finish 2nd and win our R24. It will be the winner of Group 2, 4, 7 or 8 but unclear who. As per ITTF website- After the round-robin is completed, the top three teams from each group advance to the knockout phase. 24 teams advance in tot...

Re: Indian Table Tennis Thread ...

We should comfortably beat Spain. We should have beaten Hungary 4-1 or 5-0 as well, unsure why Sreeja lost both her matches. The men have been terrible and will likely lose in the Round of 24. @sameer do you know who we will play in the women, assuming we finish 2nd and win our R24. It will be the w...

Re: Badminton Asia Team Championships

She beat #29 and #43 in straight games which bodes really well for someone who turned 17 last month. Anmol also beat Ashmita in straight games in December so I think she is already playing at a top-30/35 level. This is also only her second international tournament. We need at least 2 out of Anmol, U...

Re: Indian Table Tennis Thread ...

Men will lose to Korea.

Very surprised by Sreeja's results. She has been on a tear recently and we need her to win these kind of matches if we are to get to the last 16/8.

Re: Badminton Asia Team Championships

Treesa/Gayatri have a higher ceiling right now than Tanisha and Ashwini. In form, the former can make a deep run at a top-level tournament. Ashmita Chaliha beat former world #1 and world champion Okuhara in straight games. That's a pretty impressive win even though the latter is only ranked 20 in th...

Re: Indian Table Tennis Thread ...

Absolutely stunning performance. Looks like CN has 6 of the top 7 players in the world ranking and we only have 3 in the top hundred (36, 49, and 96). So is the ranking not representative of quality because players play different slates of tournament or are we on the rise? That is, will be have top...

Re: Indian Table Tennis Thread ...

This Chinese lady, Wang Miyu world #4, is really good at gamesmanship and slowing the game anytime Ayhika gets any momentum. Lots of good fight from Ayhika but she is 2 games down now.

At least not in an actual sport played globally so not counting something like billiards.

We are comfortably beating HK in the women's QF as expected. 2-0 up and Ashmita has won her first game.

Re: Badminton Asia Team Championships

Will Lakshya Sen gain anything in term of Olympic qualification by wins here ? Because I think he is the only one with marginal chance for us. Prannoy, Sindhu, SatChi have their places sealed I guess along with one of Tresa-Gayatri and Ashwini-Tanisha. Lakshya with 5 wins would have a chance to rep...

Re: Indian Table Tennis Thread ...

It is a bit strange that we did not play Sreeja in the second singles given she has clearly been our most inform player in recent times.

Manika, as expected, lost 1-3 against the WR #1.

Ayhika has lost her first set/game against the WR #4.
