Re: 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2023

I think expecting 2 gold medals in wrestling may be unrealistic (because of out-of-form wrestlers), as also more than 1 gold in boxing (due to home ring factor). Also its quite possible we don't get to 8 golds in athletics, but we should certainly be close (like 6-7). Considering all this, I think 2...

Re: ODI World Cup, 2023

Why are we not fastracking Jaiswal into the ODI team for the WC? This guy has proven to be a match winner in both Tests and T20s, so there is no reason why he cannot be one in ODIs as well. The batting line up I would like to see is: Jaiswal, Rohit, Gill, Kohli, Samson, Pandya and Jadeja. This lineu...

Re: India in the West Indies, July-August 2023

I wouldn't go as far as that. Medium pace bowlers can also be successful in international cricket, if they have the necessary guile and control. However problem in Mukesh Kumar's case is that he has never been successful in IPL, how can he be expected to do so at an even higher level? At least Avesh...

Re: Indian Archery Thread ...

I think we can safely say that once a choker, always a choker. So we should try to weed out the chokers like Deepika Kumari and Manu Bhaker by comparing their results in the "big" tournaments against run-of-the-mill kinds (I only consider Olympics and Asian Games as the big events for non-...

Re: India in the West Indies, July-August 2023

I hope they take Unadkat and Saini as #s 2 and 3 respectively, assuming both are fit of course. We should not need Thakur's batting specially against WI, given that it will weaken our bowling and we already have Jadeja and Ashwin, who are pretty good batsmen.

Re: India in the West Indies, July-August 2023

I actually like Unadkat's selection, he was discarded too early even though he never performed badly, and he has just been spectacular in domestic cricket since. He might have some problem if the pitch is flat though. When did Kuldeep Sen get fit? He should first demonstrate his fitness in some matc...

There's also Toor in shot put. I agree we look set to match or slightly beat last time's gold medal count in athletics.

Re: General Cricket Thread ...

IPL isn't responsible, rewarding IPL performance instead of domestic, for national team selection by the puppets is responsible. I disagree with the 1st part (and somewhat with the 2nd part as well). IPL is very much responsible for our declining returns in international cricket in that it is causi...

Re: World Test Championship final 2021-23 (The Oval)

Our pace bowling resources are rather crap (except for Siraj); so no matter whom we select, we will always be third class. Kuldeep is promising, but if he is not fit enough to play more than 1 game without getting injured, that makes him completely useless. Even Bumrah is not very good in helpful co...

Re: World Test Championship final 2021-23 (The Oval)

Undoubtedly, Ashwin and Unadkat would have been better. It seems that team management has learnt nothing from the last failure, even though it claims to have done so. Also even then I don't think it would have made a material difference. We have one of the worst bowling attack out of all test playin...

Re: World Test Championship final 2021-23 (The Oval)

I would take Jaiswal over Rahane. With the kind of form and confidence (almost bordering on overconfidence) Jaiswal is in, I would take him in all the 3 formats. With Rahane, we know what we will get, some 20-30 odd-innings, which will be insufficient. Also Pujara and Kohli could always be moved 1 s...

Re: New Zealand in India 2023 [ 3 Odis & 3T20Is ]

Actually was forgetting Malik, he is not bad too, just needs to tighten up a bit. Also most teams carry 6 bowlers, including 2 all-rounders who don't bowl their full quota of overs. So nothing unusual with Pandya. The problem though with Pandya is that he is very up and down. Quite good in 1 game an...

Re: New Zealand in India 2023 [ 3 Odis & 3T20Is ]

Looks like we only have 1 good bowler in Siraj, and 1 decent one in Kuldeep, the rest are all crap. I don't know how we can win the world cup with this lineup, the best hope is we get lucky with the toss in the knockout matches.

Re: Australia tests & ODIs vs India in India, Feb-Mar 2023

Sarfaraz did poorly in the A team games. So either he couldn't handle the step up in quality from domestic to A level, or more likely he had nerves, knowing well that it was the stepping stone to national selection. Either way, he doesn't deserve selection in the national team, unless he does well f...

Re: Sri Lanka in India

I think the team management is making the same mistake they did before T20WC, realizing too late that Chahal was no good, and then we didn't have a good backup option. I hope they figure out early this time. Interestingly, all our best fast bowlers are Mohammedans, Siraj, Malik and Shami; is it some...
