Re: ITF Junior circuit 2023 India

So glad to see Adi coming on now! This is great. I think he will move all the way up from #328 to somewhere inside top 140 as the indian #4 (after Aryan, Yuvan and Manas) after this. Saw a spark in Adi when he qualified into the the Eddie Herr J1 in Bradenton. Looks like he is no flash in the pan. ...

Re: ITF Junior circuit 2023 India

Good to see 16 year old Aditya Govila advance here. He's only lost to Koreans in this series including the guy he plays in the SF. Hopefully, he can reverse the result in this SF. :goodluck: And he did. Adi beat up the Korean kid that he lost to earlier in straight sets today! Plays the other Korea...

Re: ITF Junior circuit 2023 India

Thanks all! We are heading back to US tomorrow. Good couple of weeks here. Rohan played really well to take the first set but couldn’t sustain the level. He was physically drained. Jungjam Kim is a machine and an incredible athlete. Thanks Arjun. The medication (for Travellers diarrhea) helped quite...

Re: Asian Tennis players' thread ...

Sumit was actually in Canada with Bobby Mahal (with Mahesh"s support) for a good enough period before that too, so he did get some good hands-on coaching. He showed results too when he went inside top-125 and took a set off Federer at the US Open and all that. But now he is in a slump after th...

Re: ITF Junior circuit 2023 India

The organization here (by BTA) is really good. I would say better than what USA does. Delhi and Chandigarh folks should learn from them. Although I didn’t like that they jacked up the entry fee from $70 to $100 on “orders from AITA”. The free accommodations in the youth hostel next door are really n...

Re: Asian Tennis players' thread ...

Sumit is highly feted and pampered? He grew up in India. This guy had top-notch facilities in the U.S. and possibly money to do what he wanted. He moved to the U.S. four years ago, at age 13 I guess. Yes absolutely no comparison. Jerry has a whole team around him. IMG takes care of everything (prac...

17 year Chinese Shang Juncheng a teenage qualifier and one of youngest player in the Mens Draw Teenager created a slice of history on Monday in becoming the first male Chinese player to win an Australian Open main draw singles match. He beat the experienced 74th ranked German Oscar Otte in a intens...

Re: ITF Junior circuit 2023 India

Where is our Lee Hyung-Taik? I am okay if it isn't as good a player as HT Lee with a #36 highest rank (we have only had three male players better than him in our history, after all, and none of them is under 60). I just need to see anybody, even a top-500 player in the last 30 years, out there on c...

Re: ITF Junior circuit 2023 India

Rohan lost singles and doubles yesterday! Good week overall for him. Played really well in singles but not so much in doubles yesterday. On to Calcutta next week! He lost to a Korean kid Jangjun Kim in singles (and also doubles). Jangjun looks super talented. Very consistent, every shot is deep in c...

Re: ITF Junior circuit 2023 India

Tough day. Rohan’s opponent is a tall, big hitter with a great serve and he’s only 14 :). Has a bright future. Rohan had all the right intentions but couldn’t execute. Sprayed a few shots in crucial situations and let him off the hook. Shouldn’t have lost the first set but did well to fight back. Th...

Re: ITF Junior circuit 2023 India

Forgot to mention that Rohan Belday is also there at this event. He won his first round over a wildcard, Aryan Arora. So two sports-india members sons are in the second round!! (Pranav Karthik is the other) Thanks Jay, good to know Pranav’s dad is also a SI member. I should go introduce myself. I r...

Re: Rohan Bopanna thread...

Yeah absolutely. We always complain about lack of opportunities and sponsorship. Anyway, the juniors in India have enough opportunities I feel. Lots of tournaments, quite a few camps, dedicated training center (NTC). Believe it or not, there are more opportunities in India than what most players out...

Yes, that would be amazing. Beautiful country, amazing people!
