Hyung-Taik Lee won Sydney title
Recent ATP titles by Lee and Srichaphan reflect the gradual overall improvement of the Asian players. I agree with PK Basu that Indian players should follow the lead of Lee and Srichaphan and work on every aspect of the game - physical and mental. Go Indian players! Go Asian players!

SAFF CUP 2003
I agree with you. Losing to Pakistan in hockey is bad enough - losing to Pakistan in football is embarrasing!

Nirupama Sanjeev thread..... (Has a baby girl now!)
It will take time for Niru to get back to her previous form. I remember Pete Sampras writing about his return to tennis after an injury lay off some years back. He said that all the work-out in the gym is not as much as playing three or five set matches on a regular basis on the tour. And once you g...

India F1 (Jan 6) Lucknow Futures entry list
Harsh Mankad's run in the Lucknow Futures came to an end in the semifinal. He lost in 3 sets. Hope he and the other Indian players do better in the next Futures tournaments.

India F1 (Jan 6) Lucknow Futures entry list
Jay, I read the same article in the Lucknow edition of The Times of India last night about Ashutosh Singh and had the same reaction as you had. When will our players stop blaming others for their own deficiencies? I wonder if Ashutosh read your article suggesting that he could have been given ...

India F1 (Jan 6) Lucknow Futures entry list
Dear Dhruv, It's nice to know of people who have been to Lucknow - the city of Nawabs! Lucknow has always been a good sports town. Growing up in that city I got to see the top table tennis players from Japan and Korea, the top badminton players of the world, the great hockey match between the combin...

Oudh Gymkhana and Lucknow Futures
I am surprised that Oudh Gymkhana has been able to arrange that many matches in one day. When I used to live in Lucknow (left in 1976) the Oudh Gymkhana had only two tennis courts. The last time I visited Lucknow in 1994 I believe they had only two courts also. Lucknow surprisingly had only grass co...

Why Indians are doing better in doubles than in singles?
There was a time when the Indian tennis players were known for their skills in singles, e.g., Ramanathan Krishnan, Ramesh Krishnan, Vijay Amritraj, Leander in the early part of his career, etc. A few were good in doubles also, e.g., Vijay, Jaideep Mukherjea, Premjit Lal, etc. After the success of Le...

Who do you think is the best Indian Womens Player/Why?
Based on the current form Sania leads the pack amongst the Indian women tennis player. Niru was a better player than Sania or Manisha until she took a break from tennis. Niru in my opinion is the best women tennis player ever to emerge from India. Sania has the potential but she still has a long way...

Who do you think is the best Indian Male tennis player/why?
Leander is still the best singles tennis player in India. Bopanna may overtake him in a year or so (especially if Leander stops playing singles in 2003) but Leander has too much experience and craftiness to beat any tennis player in India right now.
