Re: $500K SA Tennis Open , Johannesburg, South Africa , Feb.2010
Nice win by Somdev who continues his excellent play at the ATP level. Both of his opponents are close to their career highs but have had success at the challenger level but mostly with losses in the ATP level matches. In Somdev's recent matches, he's had trouble with his own serves while he has been...

Congrats to Lee and Cara for their second MxD title. Lee looked very sharp in this tournament and looked very good in the Mens Dubs matches as well at least in the matches I saw on espn360.com. Had Lukas been playing better, he would have been good for a double.

Re: Misc. news about Indian hockey
This battle for power with no concern for India's performance is pretty enlightening. One of the TOI commentators had published an interesting article in which he stated that China's government derived legitimacy from relatively good governance and we can certainly see that in their sports machine w...

Best of luck to LP and Cara on their final. While I am sure he would have valued the Mens doubles title even more, winning any GS title is a significant acoomplishment. Of course, a mens singles GS title remains the holy grail for Indian (and Asian) tennis on both the mens and womens sides.

Mens Doubles QF
(1) Bob Bryan USA (1)/ Mike Bryan USA d Eric Butorac USA/Rajeev Ram USA 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (2)
Close but no cigar for Rajeev who seems to have found a solid partner in Butorac.

Rishika Sunkara loses 0-6, 2-6 to 3rd seeded Russian Daria Gavrilova. Fairly close second set on points after she was seemingly outclassed in the first set.

LP-LD up 6-3, 3-2 on Querrey/Isner and are looking much the better pair on court.

"Indian" success in doubles continues.
LP/LD beat the Czech duo of Friedl/Skoch 6-3, 6-1 to move into the second round.
Rajeev Ram/Eric Butorac advance 6-3, 6-4 over Brazilians Thomaz Belluci/Andre Sa

Re: 2010 Australian Open, Melbourne - 18th to 31st 2010
Very disappointing. As far as I can remember, his serve never looked this vulnerable. He was able to hold it comfortably even against most top 100 pros (with whomever he played in the last year and half). Is he trying something new? BTW, Gilles Simon is out with knee injury. Another 3-4 withdrawals...

Re: Somdev Dev Varman ...
Per the quote below, looks like Somdev was serving in the 120 mph range a couple of years ago. Right now, he seems to be serving in the 100 mph range with his biggest serves in the 105-106 mph range. What gives? I know serve speed is not all that is cracked up to be but when you are serving with les...

Re: 2010 Australian Open, Melbourne - 18th to 31st 2010
Solid wins by Somdev and Prakash. Nothing to be concerned about Yuki's loss. He is playing competitively against top 250 type players and he will start winning these matches in a little while (likely later this year). His record is no worse than that of Tomic and Harrison who have also lost most of ...

The pairing of MB and Rohan haven't been playing well together for a while now including their dissapointing performance against SA in the Davis Cup last year. Individually, they have been in pretty good form with other partners, so it must something that is lacking in their combination.

Re: India in Bangladesh (2 Tests & ODI tri-series), Jan-Feb 2010
300 in Bangladesh is equivalent to 225-250 elsewhere. You have to remember that nature of the pitches before being critical of the bowlers. Really? Walk in the park. QED. If your park is a gutter :D While a win is a win, this one almost isn't. Indian pace bowlers look toothless even against...

Tipsarevic felt Somdev needs to be aggressive and has to make good use of his forehand if he has to break into the top "He needs to be more aggressive and should learn that just by running and grinding from the back, its not going to happen for him. This is something he didn’t do or I didn’t a...
