Re: England tour of India, Nov-Dec 2008
I also don't see any need for Sachin to play these pointless ODIs. We're 3-0 up and all set to wrap up the series. There is no immediate need for him to 'resuce' the team. Even thought the 2011 WC is in the sub-continent, I don't feel that SRT really needs to practice on these pitches. His presence ...

Re: England tour of India, Nov-Dec 2008
Suresh Raina continues to underwhelm. He SHOULD be dropped .. I completely disagree with this. As you have already acknowledged in your post, Raina made a spectacular comeback into the ODI squad with 2 centuries (and an 84) in a span of 7 days. After that, he made three 50s against Sri Lanka (2 in ...

Re: England tour of India, Nov-Dec 2008
I thought the cricketers are paid a yearly contract. If they do get some small amounts for each ODI match, the BCCI should just pay him a high enough bonus or a contract and tell him that covers that. The exact plan may be different but the gist of what I am saying is that the BCCI could manage to ...

Re: Australia tour of India, October-November 2008
However, I agree with Suresh about being No 1 in tests. We have never won away to SA and our record against NZ is poor too. Until we win series home and away consistently we can't be considered as the best. Personally I agree that we might not be #1 just yet, but one should take into account that #...

Re: Australia tour of India, October-November 2008
Congratulations to Team India for this wonderful performance. Dhosni's captaincy has been a revelation. He is well and truly the leader of this team. On this note, here's an article on Dhoni and his background http://www.telegraphindia.com/1081109/jsp/calcutta/story_10081820.jsp In 2003, Sourav Gang...

Re: Australia tour of India, October-November 2008
We have already dropped 3-4 catches today.
Even though Aus have lost 3 wkts, they are scoring at will (104 runs in 21 overs!).
We'll have to get Hayden soon.

Re: US$50K Champaign (Illinois) Challenger, 11-16th Nov 2008
Too bad I won't be in Champaign to meet Somdev and Kash. Somdev played in Champaign some months back (NCAA), and I was fortunate enough to meet both him and Sanam during that tie. Rajeev is of course the local favorite in Champaign since he played for the Fighting Illini and led them (with Delic and...

Re: Australia tour of India, October-November 2008
Dhoni and Bhajji effectively saved this match for India. They were helped by the fact that Australia had to employ some part-timers because of the slow over rate, but still it was an uphill task to stretch the lead to 380. Ponting's decision will be questioned because people will say that it is more...

Re: Australia tour of India, October-November 2008
With a 80+ run lead going into the 4th day, I feel that India are well and truly ahead of Australia. Since we do not have to necessarily win this match to wrap up the series, India should not 'force' things from here on. By this I mean that we should not be thinking about scoring fast and setting a ...

Tanmay Srivastava is also shaping up nicely. He'll be a contender in a couple of years I guess.

All the Australian newspapers had this as one of their top stories. The same newspapers which were making a lot of noise after the Syndey farce are now acknowleding that it was indeed a farce. http://www.theage.com.au/news/sport/cricket/australias-cricketers-and-the-wearing-of-the-saggy-green/2008/1...

Re: Australia tour of India, October-November 2008
So Puneet, how are you going to prove your "fitness" that you can still post :) ? Welcome back man In order to prove my fitness, I first wrote some small emails, then some lengthy ones, and finally some posts on SI. Initially the fingers were not coming onto the keyborad, but then I said to myself ...
