Re: Tokyo Olympics 2020 projections

Re: Sreeshankar - His outdoor best of 8.00m in 2019 is #66 in the world. His world ranking is better at #31. Looks like less of a medal prospect in 2020 than even our male badminton players...

Re: European Challengers clay season 2019

I think Sumit has only 2 aces the entire week, which is virtually unheard of in men's tennis, even on clay. Trying to win every point by grinding it out from the baseline is a tough way to win matches. More importantly, in order for him to get into the top 100, he has to drastically improve his ser...

Re: Tokyo Olympic 2020 qualification

This should be relatively easy for the Indian men. The women should also be favored at home although the matches could be quite close.

Re: European Challengers clay season 2019

Yes, should be close match. 3 month UTR for Sumit is #99 while it is #170 for Coria, so Sumit is currently the hotter player...

Re: P. V. Sindhu thread - Rio Olympics Silver medal winner

Thanks Jay. Next year she will be in the top 10! All that world championship winning related money (recent) and of course the sponsorship deals in prep to 2020 Tokyo Olympics will add up..... You have to be kidding amount the prize money. Prize money in badminton is pretty small. Most of her income...

Good win by Ramk! The next round opponent is a rising youngster so figures to be more difficult.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread

It will be nice for Sumit to go on a deep run here to consolidate his fine effort at the US Open. The draw seems to set up for him to do so.

Re: Football: Indian National Team news ...

Nice result for India! 44% ball possession by India isn't bad overall and probably helped salvage the draw although the offensive stats are heavily skewed in favor of Qatar which means that lot of our possession was in defense and midfield. BTW, in a friendly today, Oman beat #87 Lebanon 1-0 today d...

Re: pre-US Open hard court ATP season 2019

This is bizarre. If you are winning the second serve points at a better rate than your first serve, then you pretty much have to slow down your first serve! Makes no sense to me. I mean one could explain that if you serve slower, your opponent perhaps returns slower and you have more time to retrie...

Re: US Open 2019

In general, I am curious to what sports-india thinks is behind Serena and Nadal both getting increasingly tight and erratic in tight matches as their careers are in their final stretch. Federer has always had issues in close finals but never to the extent where he could not close out 40-15 on his o...

Anirban will now drop from the 7th position although he is guaranteed a top 25 position and a PGA tour card. Subhankar Sharma has to finish in the top 5 or so to seal his card.

Re: East Asian Challengers, 2019

Nice resurgence by Mukund! He has a chance at taking out Duckworth in the final although Duckworth is the higher ranked player who will be favored.

He will be at a new career high of around 235 now. A title will take him inside the top 215.

[R3] 12-Sasikumar Mukund (IND, 285) d. 6-Kaichi Uchida (JPN, 256) 76(3) 62 This is on clay courts! I caught a few glimpses of the match, but Mukund was totally dominating at the end. I managed to go back and watch the first set tiebreak before the feed switched to the next match. Mukund has an impr...

Re: Sumit Nagal thread

Sumit confirmed he will be playing next week in Genova, Italy on red clay. Back to clay, huh? Okay, for now, but he should play a bit more on hard courts. It's not like he is roadkill on the hard court. His shot shape is almost better for hard courts than it is on clay. Even though he hits a ball w...
