Re: Sumit Nagal thread

Nice win by Sumit! Takes him to a live ranking of #150 although there are still a couple of players that can still overhaul him this week. In any case, he will be at a new career high this week.

A title should take him to around #135.

Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...

Yes, somewhat dissapointing effort from Sreeshankar who is still quite young.

MP Jabir made the SFs in the 400 MH by finishing 3rd in his heat with a timing of 49.63 (with first 4 qualifying). He had the 5th best PB in his heat, so a good performance from him.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread

After his first round win, Sumit had posted that this was one of the slowest clay court that he has played on. He does seem to be having difficulty adjusting to it and it has not been smooth sailing for him. If one looks at the draw, in a draw of 48 here, there are 43 South Americans, 4 Europeans a...

Re: Football: Indian National Team news ...

Probably Stimac was homesick! Agree that defending against the Croatians is likely to be good preparation for defending against Qatar.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread

[R3] (7) Sumit Nagal (IND,161) d. (12) Jose Hernandez-Fernandez (DOM,265) 63 36 64 Basically they both played quite well in the final few games, but Sumit was more in control of his nerves, perhaps. Sometimes, winning is a habit. Nice tennis in the end, though it was rather meh in the first couple ...

Re: Commonwealth Games 2018, Gold Coast, Australia, April 5-14

Agree that removing shooting (a core olympic sport) doesn't make sense in a mini-olympic like event. As probably one of the larger revenue sources (for TV), we should also have proportional representation in the committees. That said, this is a good event for India to compete at a lower level and ga...

Re: Tokyo Olympics 2020 projections

Yes, our folks who are winning medals at world championship level (i.e., olympic level competition) appears to be unprecedented. Curious to know how many such we had in the year before the Rio olympics where ended up winning 2 medals. [Edit: Just saw Sameer's comparison to Rio which confirms that ou...

Re: Indian Wrestling Thread ...

Awesome performance by the wrestlers to win 3 bronze medals! They should all be medal prospects at Tokyo as they all looked pretty good in their wins and especially Bajrang was essentially robbed by the judges.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread

[R3] Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND, 179) v. Botic Van De Zandschulp (NED, 287)

This may be a tougher match than it appears as the 3 month UTR (which is more reflective of current form) has the Dutch player at #155 with RamK at #265.

Re: Tokyo Olympics 2020 projections

The thing with Sreeshankar is he has changed his technique after that 8:20 jump and he has yet to adjust completely. We have to see how he adjusts. Same with Tejaswin shankar in high jump who has yet to reach his PB,NR after his technique change. Tejaswin's best in 2019 of 2.27m puts him at #27 for...

Re: Indian Volleyball

In classification round, we lost to Australia, but the scores shows it was a tight game 27-29,24-26,21-25. Next match is with none other than Iran. Results are already well-known Good to see this performance by the Indian team. Hopefully, this is a young and rising team and will rise towards the to...
