Re: Indian Boxing Thread

We had our first loss today in 91kg category. This was probably our weakest category anyway. Most of the QF bouts are going to be pretty even, and we will likely only win around 4 out of 7 on the men's side, and 3 out of 5 on the women's side.

Re: Indian Boxing Thread

It's not QF, it's PQF. So we can say goodbye to our chances in 57 kg

Re: Indian Boxing Thread

Mary will need at least 2 wins (not 1). If she loses in QF, there will be a box-off to decide the qualifiers between losing QFs. Similarly on the men's side, only Satish in 91+ category needs only 1 win; all others need at least 2 (some 3 if they lose the QF bout, since there will potentially be 2 r...

Re: India in New Zealand 2020

Agree with the sentiment on Shastri, but removing Kohli seems really kneejerk. Whom would you replace him with? There's nobody else who commands a guaranteed spot in the lineup. What I think is that it is high time we got rid of Rahane, and also get the nextgen trio of Shaw, Gill and Iyer. Don't hav...

Re: India in New Zealand 2020

How can you be sure that the selectors were not part of the loop? Maybe Kohli consulted the selectors before benching him. And the selectors did drop him for the next series, so maybe they were privy to this. Otherwise if they were pissed off with Kohli for not consulting with them, they could have ...

Re: India in New Zealand 2020

There must have a been a reason why Kohli did not want to pick Nair. Maybe he realized how futile he was in the nets or wherever; which got validated subsequently. We cannot be privy to all that went on in the background.

Re: India in New Zealand 2020

Even our bowling was pretty pathetic to let them score so many runs in conditions so conducive to swing bowling. But even our replacements Umesh and Saini don't inspire much confidence. I don't know why Vihari is getting a free pass. He comes in when the ball is old and not doing much; still not abl...

Re: India in New Zealand 2020

I have said many times before that our fast bowlers don't know how to take advantage of swing friendly conditions; so we will likely end up losing 2-0. And I would not be surprised if we get whitewashed in Australia as well. So getting in to WTC final may not be a foregone conclusion

Re: India in New Zealand 2020

Our fast bowlers were again unable to take advantage of helpful conditions, just like in WC SF. Bumrah seems to not do very well in these conditions, also I don't know if he is feeling overworked. It will be a good idea to rest him for the final ODI. I can already sense a looming 2-0 defeat in the T...

Re: India in New Zealand 2020

Chahal's performance has been quite disappointing so far; he has been outbowled by both NZ spinners (Sodhi in particular). I think that's the weakest link in our bowling right now, we need to find a replacement. Why is team management not giving more chances to Kuldeep? The selectors also need to lo...

Re: India in New Zealand 2020

We should try out Axar Patel at #6; I don't see any other viable options until Pandya is back. This guy can hit and also be tidy in his bowling. While Dube might be better to play a longer innings; in terms of slogging capability, Axar may be just as good. Also as strange as it sounds, but Kohli see...

Re: Australia in India (short tour, Jan 2020)

I think we (as cricket followers) realized Rahul's futility a while back; but somehow the Indian team management has not done so. It will likely take them until the next big event that we lose. Between Kedar and Manish, I would definitely pick Manish, since I believe Kedar is a on a decline. He was ...

Re: Sri Lanka in India

You don't consider Pandya an automatic entry? He is one of the best T20 players in the world IMO. The best slogger we have had for a while now, and also a wicket-taking bowler, although a bit expensive. He is the most valuable player in the Indian team when fit and would walk into any international ...

Re: Sri Lanka in India

Seems to me that Iyer is trying to be too aggressive from the start, which is counter to his style of play, and is affecting his consistency. In contrast, Pandey has decided to slow down in order to be consistent. In ODI cricket which offers more time to settle down, Iyer is much more consistent tha...
