Re: Sports and Performance Enhancing Drugs (Doping)
Now, Parvej Khan in dope net! Features have been written over the past few months to tell us how a Haryana boy has caught the imagination of the pundits in the US. Disappointing to note that he too is dependent on something; we are not sure at this point whether he would be sanctioned. That's long w...

Para athlete banned. She blamed it on FSSAI-approved supplement. Not sure whether that claim is valid.

Re: Sports and Performance Enhancing Drugs (Doping)
Valid question Prasen. She gave some explanation about she having to go abroad for training as part of an Indian team, having a technical glitch in her mobile, thus not getting the OTP (for filing on ADAMS) and later losing her mobile! You know how these explanations are "manufactured"! Ap...

Re: Paris Olympics 2024
What seems to be missing is a clear reference to the set of rules that needed to be followed for Paris Olympics. Say, something like "Paris Olympic wrestling rules" or "UWW rules applicable to 2024 Olympics" or "UWW rules 2019 version shall apply to Paris Olympics". The...

Re: Paris Olympics 2024
The sole arbitrator calls the UWW rules "draconian" and agrees with the IOA/athlete contention that the second weigh-in should not negate the results of the three rounds on the first day and deprive her of a silver medal. But finds the rules giving no room for any dilution. She very rightl...

Re: Sports and Performance Enhancing Drugs (Doping)
Shipra Sarkar was suspended during 2020-2024. She started competing from 2022. NADA did not take any quick action. In fact, NADA did not even know that she had started competing in 2022! NADA acted only when people started pointing out on X (former Twitter) that she had violated her ineligibility pe...

Re: Paris Olympics 2024
Mr Sanjeev Gupta has, however, not given up his argument. He has come up with a new one which, even though it might sound very logical, was apparently not understood by UWW, its technical wing, its president, all teams, all wrestlers including Vinesh Phogat, the Indian federation, the IOA etc plus t...

Re: Paris Olympics 2024
The Paris Olympics wrestling competition was held under 2019 IWF rules that do not allow the 2kg tolerance for the Olympics but does for World Cup and other UWW tournaments (what are these tournaments, one doesn't know yet).' The 2023 rules apparently do allow this tolerance for all types of competi...

Re: Paris Olympics 2024
The 2kg allowance is allowed for World Cup etc plus UWW ranking series which could possibly include Olympics. (One is unsure of these rules of UWW since everything looks so vague)

Re: Paris Olympics 2024
^^^^I believe the 2023 UWW rules don’t have any 2 kg exemption while the older 2019 rules did. So, it must have been the 2023 rules that were followed. Your message, perhaps inadvertently, indicates the opposite. These rules (2019) were followed. The mention of it is, unfortunaately, buried in a do...

Re: Paris Olympics 2024
I was probably misled by Mr Gupta's arguments on X. Now, it is clear the UWW followed its 2019 rules at the Paris Games (not the 2023 rules that, without elaborating, allow all kinds of competitions to use the 2kg tolerance) Based on this, it looks extremely remote that Vinesh Phogat would get any r...

I don't know what the lawyers said at the hearing Jay. Too much of speculation about what transpired. No statement from Phogat's side.

Re: Paris Olympics 2024
^^my comments in bold red are very important if I may say so myself. The 2023 rules etc. are out of the window for this reason and a case of sour grapes that would find no takers. But if UWW itself called them "Olympic regulations", where does that leave UWW, CAS, lawyers etc? If indeed t...
