Indian Sporting Achievement of the Year

I was thinking about this but the Thomas Cup win almost certainly will be the sporting achievement of the year for Indian sports in 2022. What would be that for previous years? Some to get the discussion going 1983 - Cricket WC win 1987 - Davis Cup final, including beating Australia in Sydney in the...

Re: BWF Thomas & Uber Cup Finals

This is going to be hard to beat as the Indian sporting achievement of the year.

We won this because of our singles depth and all 3 of Lakshya, Srikanth and Prannoy are in decent form (and certainly top 15 players at this point of time).

I knew we were going to win when I saw this post. Antonsen will beat Srikanth is a very strong statement, they are both similar level players.

Not at all. Satwik hasn't improved much since his breakthrough.

Re: ATP Tennis/Non-India Davis Cup

Alcaraz beat Djokovic to reach the finals.

No doubts in my prediction from earlier that he is going to dominate the Medvedev, Zverev, Tsitsipas generation quickly.

I would still put Rafa (with more practice on clay) and Novak above him at the remaining GS this year.

Re: FIH Men's Pro League

Honestly, we are as good as we have ever been in my lifetime so I don't have a lot to complain. We even finally won a(ny) medal for the first time in my life. I saw us win a silver and match Australia in a CT final in person in Breda. I know ssp called us 5th or 6th in the world but I would put the ...

This exercise is better done with net revenues, after including costs. The entire challenger tour is run at a loss.

Re: Football: Indian National Team news ...

We went downhill because of increased participating in Asian football. That said, no Asian team has ever been real good, and there have only been a couple of Asian players who could be considered world class in history so at least we are not alone in this misery.

Re: ATP Tennis/Non-India Davis Cup

I think Alcaraz is almost certainly going to be the next big star in tennis. Best teenage prodigy since Nadal himself almost 2 decades back. No real weakness in his game, except inability to win free points on serve, and has a strong mentality and head. Going to call it that he is going to usurp the...

I am amazed that Jay is still keeping this going. I am in ignore-Covid mode until we get a new more dangerous variant.
