Arjun Ergaisi - 7th Indian to ever get to 2700 ELO
With his last round win at the Olympiad, he will have a rating of 2702 as per the September rating list. This makes him India #5 and the 7th Indian ever to hit 2700. At age 18, he is the 2nd fastest India to hit 2700, and 3rd in the juniors ranking behind Firouzja and Gukesh. Congrats to Arjun for t...

Re: World Chess Olympiad/ World Team Chess
Gaprindashvili Cup doesn't matter. India 2 won their final tie 3-1 but both Armenia and Uzbekistan won 2.5-1.5 so India-2 finished 3rd. Gukesh's heartbreaking loss in R10 proved decisive and the difference between gold and bronze. The women choked really badly though, they led until R8 and then agai...

Re: Gukesh D - 2nd youngest Grandmaster in history
I hope Gukesh is mentally strong since his loss today is the stuff of nightmares, and the kind of loss that can mentally devastate you (given the stakes that he blundered twice and even a draw would have meant that India-2 would have been the likely Olympiad champions).

Re: World Chess Olympiad/ World Team Chess
Today was a heartbreaking disaster. When I woke up, both Gukesh and Pragg were winning and the other two games looked like a draw. This would have meant a 3-1 win and India-2 in a clear first position and likely needing a draw in the final round to win. 45-mins later Gukesh had blundered and his gam...

Re: Commonwealth Games, 2022
We had Tokyo Olympics just last year so hard to have a new "find" of the tournament. Reviewing it and starting from the Tokyo medalists, Neeraj - DNP but won a silver at WC two weeks back so clearly still a medal favourite if the Olympics happened today Mirabai - won gold here with about the same we...

Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...
mugu I think the point is, we have
1 top-3 medal contender (Neeraj)
1 middle-distance runner who can win a medal with some luck (Sable)
2-3 who can make an Olympics or WC final (Eldhose, Sreeshankar, Annu Rani)
This is a marked improvement for us.

India men were the favourites and lost knockout matches.
India women were the underdogs and lost finals.
Exactly the same

Re: Commonwealth Games, 2022
We are at 55 medals and 18 golds so far. Already above our predictions, right? At least just above "satisfied" levels for me. 60 medals and 20 golds would make me quite happy. We have 5 gold medals and 1 bronze medal match. So overall medal tally is either 60 or 61, and golds will be 18-23 We won 6...

Re: Commonwealth Games, 2022
You are a better man than me Jay. If Nadeem was winning with 85, I could have been ok but not at 90  ^^^ Hey, Neeraj has his work cut out for him. The guy who idolizes him has just gone past him! Good that he isn't there today, because the Pakistani beating him would have looked bad. It is bas...
