We will win plenty of medals. Actual Olympic level medals will be less than the previous Asiad.

Re: 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2023
Yes, we had silver in this event at last Asian games with Deepak Kumar. But, did not have a medal in womens 10M Air rifle. I expect more step-down in pistol events where we had our shooters like Saurabh in top form last time. We had 2 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze in Olympic events last time. I would...

Re: 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2023
Another 3rd/4th place finish in men's 10m air rifle. This is a step-down from the previous Asian Games in terms of the big medals.
We will almost certainly add another team silver in the 25m rapid fire pistol but these medals are not indicative of much outside of depth.

Not super interesting. What’s interesting to see is our performance relative to Olympic level competition.

Re: 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2023
Looking at the Chinese men’s chess team, we should be the favorite in the men’s team’s event and if Pragg was playing, he would have had a very good chance in the individual as well. Arjun and Vidit are a level below in rapid.

Bronze for Ramita, Mehuli finished 4th. Would have liked one of them to beat one of the Chinese sigh.

Khajan Singh silver in 1986 Seoul Recall swimming against him in my final year in IITD in a waterpolo match. He was fast and rough but I gave him as much as I got. :D Per my memory, he was swimming as a forward for a police outfit (ITBP?) and it was a competitive game although we ended up losing to...

Re: ODI World Cup, 2023
It is not just those 3 selections. KL is a mental midget who has never performed in a tough situation either. It is a team filled with useless players.

Re: BWF tournaments Sep 2023
Very poor loss for Priyanshu in particular. I hadn't realized that both Srikanth and Sindhu withdrew, they are both in the draw for next week in HK which is a bit silly since Srikanth has Axelsen in the first round.

Re: Indian Economy
Does India really have more communal violence today? More whatsvideos and phone cameras is not evidence. Have we really forgotten all the riots we had through the 80s and 90s? We had a 7.8% GDP growth in the last quarter. We have high inequality but it has been the same the past few years. Where is ...

Re: 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2023
In chess, if it goes by rank, in the men's we should get a silver and in women's a bronze in the individuals. In women's there are four Chinese women in the top 9. Don't know about team medals. But, it women's it would be quite hard to get a gold. In men's too, their top 4 are in the top 24 and eac...

Re: ACC Asia Cup
We need to start by getting rid of Dravid as a coach, the team has regressed tremendously in recent years and selections and tactics have been dismal. If Shastri was so incompetent, he would have been let go a long time back but since everyone has a soft spot for Dravid the cricketer, his incompeten...

Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...
Neeraj has developed this uncanny ability to throw just what is needed, nothing less nothing more! He is having this great run in an era having many throwers who have better throws than him but are not able to do that consistently or when it matters. Even Arshad Nadeem from Pak has 90+ throw but he...

BWF tournaments Sep 2023
Two big tournaments - China open (1000 series) and HK Open (500 series). These are the current Race to Paris rankings - Prannoy is 2nd and Lakshya is 6th in the men, Sindhu is 7th amongst the women as are Satwik/Chirag. China open draw Lakshya (#12) vs Antonsen (#10) with LKY(#8) in round 2 and Axel...
