Re: Asian Games 2018, Indonesia - Jakarta Palembang 2018

Usually, that’s a kiss of death for India. Hope it won’t be this time.

Re: India in England, 2018

Rohit Sharma is ready to open if asked per a news report I read. Wouldn’t put this past the selectors.

Re: India's Dream Cricket Test Team

Prashant, I agree. This has morphed into a completely different discussion. Patil and Prabhakar being called a dream player in any team pretty much tells it all.

Re: India's Dream Cricket Test Team

What is Amarnath’s SD in the away average and are there many not outs included in it? I agree that if his average that you quoted is fairly consistent, I’d rate him high but if his average at home is bad, then that needs to be taken into account as well. We can’t have a domestic team and a touring t...

Re: India's Dream Cricket Test Team

To me, anything Jimmy did was a bonus. Gavaskar, you could count on. Jimmy, not. It’s a blasphemy for me to even mention them in the same breath. If anything, I’d rate Viswanath higher than Jimmy. Sadly, Viswanath never reached the lofty heights he surely was capable of achieving.

Re: India in England, 2018

We have given away too many runs to lower order regularly. This is where our bowlers are to be blamed. It’s a habit we’ve developed although it seems a general malaise that has benefited us on occasions too. But, in the current lot only Ashwin has the wherewithal and nous to handle the batting dutie...

IPL is a strawman.

I’m sorry; I don’t know what this means. Are you saying we were always bad so IPL has played no role in our continued failures despite lot more money and domination of administrative bodies of world cricket?

Re: India in England, 2018

I don’t think we’ve been this dismal. And this is one of our stronger teams. With the bygone era, the pastings were largely expected, but the inability to close out the first test and now not even lasting two days for combined two innings is a new low in my opinion. I expected a lost series but not ...

Re: India in England, 2018

As I’ve repeatedly said, the cause for India’s cricket decline can be summed up in one TLA—IPL. Any questions? No amount of chopping and churning can make Indian cricket team better. Indian contracted players (first choice ones) are the only ones who play absolutely no domestic or overseas longer du...

Re: India in England, 2018

This tour may break Kohli mentally and he may never recover from that. His teammates must come to his rescue.

Re: Pre-US Open Challengers, July-August 2018

Prajnesh was hitting very ordinary returns. If that’s his standard of play, I would be really concerned. The opponent was hitting some quality shots. But, this may be just one point and even the right approach at match point. I was just surprised at how ordinary PG’s shots were.

Re: Indian domestic cricket/ players

He played in some T20 or ODI games recently and didn’t really create a solid impression. Plus, I remember him dropping some catches, but I may be wrong. Anyway, unless he can bat, no bowler deserves a chance in my selection for India. Unless you are that great that the world takes note and worries. ...

Re: India's Dream Cricket Test Team

Sunil Gavaskar remains the best batsman India has ever produced in my books. Impossible to compare across formats, equipment, competition, supporting cast, etc. but Sunil transcends Kohli. Before it comes up, I do not rate SRT in the same breath as either Sunil or Virat.

Re: India in England, 2018

Does Mayank Agrawal deserve a look as do Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant? What are we waiting to blood them for? We did the same for two years too many with the “fab four” even when they kept laying one egg after another. We seriously need to ask Rahul to open and drop Dhawan ASAP. Better yet, get Puj...

Re: India in England, 2018

Don’t know about others, but Ishant doesn’t belong in any cricket team. Even a team of discards wouldn’t have a place for him. When even the auto correct replaces his name with I shan’t, it’s pretty clear that he shouldn’t be anywhere even close to a cricket ground.

Umesh I can live with.
