Re: Nehru Cup Football 2009
I think the big difference between Indian football and the rest of asia is simply size/skill ratio. These semi-skilled west asian teams (i'm sure east asian teams would do the same) completely outmuscle us, draw fouls and score on set plays at will. Our only 6 foot players are Anwar, Gouramangi, Yad...

Re: 2008 AFC U-16 Championship (top 3 or 4 teams qualify for FIF
I'll hold my tongue a little bit because these are 15 year old players but while watching the last two games, our young squad looked completely amateur compared to the Koreans and Syrians. I have no idea what happened, we had tons of preparation for over a yr and looked awesome in the qualifiers aga...

Re: 2008 AFC U-16 Championship (top 3 or 4 teams qualify for FIF
Bad News!! Coach Colin Toal has reported that our star striker Malsawmfela is still nursing an injury and has been ruled out for the first match again South Korea :damn: Malawmfela is a special talent (scored 3 of our 4 goals against Everton and Manchester United) and most of our goals on the US tou...

Re: I-League 2008-09 - from 12th September 2008 to 15th of April
Good to see a few Indian strikers getting playing time even though its off the bench. Young national team striker Sushil Kumar SIngh should be starting. The bad part is that alot of teams haven't finalized their foreigners (which I find ridiculous because rosters should be set when the season starts...

Re: 2008 AFC U-16 Championship (top 3 or 4 teams qualify for FIF
Looking at the draw, India once again got screwed (as did South Korea and Syria) in our group. Iraq was ahead of india in qualifying (Top 2 teams from each group qualify), but Iraq was fielding overaged players and was eliminated. So technically India should be handled as the group topper. Instead w...

Re: Indian Basketball Thread ...
We didn't have a clue as to how to run and prepare a National Football team and and professional league up until last year. I fear it will take the same extremely long/slow learning curve before out Basketball Federation and Volleyball Federation get a clue. It will take every small asian country pa...

Re: India national team (AIFF looking for leased stadia!!)
Some great news: http://www.hindu.com/2008/09/02/stories/2008090251322000.htm At present, each team can register three foreign players and include all of them in its squad in a match. “We will take a decision by the end of this year to reduce the number of foreigners. This will start from next I-Lea...

Re: Indian Volleyball Thread - Asian u20 Juniors (Teheran)
I guarantee Pakistan is pulling something fishy in this tourney, either over-aged players or match fixing.

This is dissapointing because I strongly believe that with a Pro Volleyball League and some friendly matches, we can be the best in Asian Volleyball. The two top teams will qualify for next year's World Cup.

Re: Indian Basketball Thread ...
There is zero coverage of U-18 Basketball around Asia but the U-18 Asian Basketball Championship just concluded with India finishing 13th out of 16 teams. We have really let our basketball slip to disastrous levels in the last 6 years. We used to be a top 8 team in Asia, but we are getting worse eve...

Re: Indian Volleyball Thread - Asian u20 Juniors (Teheran)
I'm no authority on age-cheating and usually its pure speculation, however, I do not think that this problem is any greater in India than any other country. I follow football very closely and I can't remember the last time that India has been caught up in age cheating. In football, bonescans are don...

Re: London Olympics, 2012
The Indian Govn't is going to have to take a more militant approach to training/developing athletes if we are to realize more of our medal potential. There is not many country's in the world more chaotic or unorthodox than India, so we need some year round commitment. Hopefully, the display by China...
