Re: Viswanathan Anand - The World Champ

Given that Carlsen won today against Adam and Anand failed to convert his slight advantage against David Howell (200 points away), this is bound to change.

Re: World Championship Match 2010 - Anand vs Topalov

Worse, this seems like his 'postdoctoral work'. So, you guys deserve more pats on the back.

Re: World Championship Match 2010 - Anand vs Topalov

This is the wrong thread for the discussion but prasen, kujo and others slugged it out here (and I joined in with my two cents) on the topic of the ideal world championship system for chess. Anyway, here is an article in Chessbase (http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=6851), pretty much sa...

Re: Chess - General Thread

I don't know whether to open a new thread for Asian Games team events in chess. Indian Men thrashed Uzbeks 4-0. Part of the 'upset' was Hari beating Rustam Kasmidzhanov (yes, Kasim, the one tiem FIDE knockout champion, the generator of some killer ideas for Anand in the Kramnik match). Sasi, Surya a...

Re: World Championship Match 2010 - Anand vs Topalov

Jay is like the cranky uncle in the house who would not stay confined to the attic (and take too many showers on top of that;-)). Here he goes again on his pet theme of games vs sports. But without his episodic appearences, life could be a bit dull. We should allow him to troll this thread.

Re: World Championship Match 2010 - Anand vs Topalov

The intention of Carlsen's move is to discredit the candidates match and the subsequent world championship. The argument about privileges of the champion sounds reasonable but is self-serving. Different sports/games have different traditions. I agree that, in the current system, if you are champion ...

Re: Koneru Humpy - Player Thread

Usually these guys never insist that Anand has to attend these training camps. Humpy, they think they can get away with insisting on 'rules'.

Re: Viswanathan Anand - The World Champ

Anand was in trouble against Magnus in the last round but escaped with a draw. He is still two points ahead of Carlsen in the live rating. If the Nanjing (18-30 Oct, with Anand, Topalov, Carlsen, Gashimov, Yue and Bacrot playing) results don't count, Anand may be at the top of the FIDE list in Novem...

Re: Viswanathan Anand - The World Champ

Anand playing in Bilbao Masters Final, along with Carlsen, Kramnik and Shirov. Kramnik leading with two wins (Carlsen and Shirov) and two draws (Anand and Carlsen). Anand follows with a win over Carlsen and draws against Kramnik and Shirov (twice, although Anand came close to winning yesterday playi...

Re: Chess Olympiad 2010

Sasi and Surya both won with black giving India a victory over Switzerland, but the the chinese women were too good for us. Harika held Hou Yifan to a draw but Eesha and Meenakshi got beaten. In the open section we are in the 25th position and in women's, 9th. There is just one more round to go. In ...

Re: Chess Olympiad 2010

Poland beat us 3-1, with 3rd and 4th board losing. Cuba vs India in women's section brought some relief. Eesha came through at the 2nd board (with Harika rested). Men play Switzerland next. The crux would be the India China contest in the women section. It is do or die if one is to have any medal ho...

Re: Chess Olympiad 2010

In round 8 the good deeds of the women's team did not go unpunished. Indian girls faced super strong Russia1 and got thrashed 3.5-.5. Only Eesha managed to hold a draw against Aleksandra Kosteniuk. Previous heroics included a victory over Ukraine with Harika beating Lahno. Boys managed to beat Turkm...

Re: Chess Olympiad 2010

Fourth round did not go well for Indian teams, men (open) getting beaten by Russia2 and women by Bulgaria. However, they bounced back the day after with a win against Bulgaria (Sasi and Hari drew Topalov and Cheparinov, respectively, and Surya and Gopal won). The women beat Iran team. Today is the re...

Chess Olympiad 2010

Chess Olympiad is on a Khanty Mansiysk. Sasi, Hari, Surya, Gopal and Adhiban make up the 'Open' team. India has won against three weaker teams so far, but meets Russia 2 tomorrow. http://chess-results.com/tnr36795.aspx?art=2&rd=4&lan=1&flag=30&m=-1&wi=1000 Indian women (Harika, T...

Re: Chess software

Depends upon your level and what kind of computer you have and how much are you willing to pay. At a basic level, with Macs, I found Sigma Chess to be an excellent freeware. Some folks like Chessmaster for beginner to intermediate levels. At very strong levels, one would use Rybka (commercial) or St...
