Re: ATP Tennis/Non-India Davis Cup

Congratulations to Nadal for a well deserved gold medal and the #1 ranking. He has been the best player, by far, this year. The jump he has shown since the Hamburg tourney has been nothing short of spectacular. As for Fed, I think he is too talented to fade away like that. Looking at his celebration...

Re: ATP Tennis/Non-India Davis Cup

Federer made most of the mistakes  on his one handed back hand because of the  heavy vertical spin strokes of Nadal which IMO would have affected Sampras also on clay and grass. Players are also returning much better nowadays also because of the technology.   if we are talking about how the play af...

Re: ATP Tennis/Non-India Davis Cup

However, Federer is not an instinctive volleyer at this current time. He has the talent (as we saw from his early Wimbledon matches especially the memorable one against Sampras where he attacked the net as much as possible) but he's not as proficient with that skill right now (mainly from lack of u...

Re: ATP Tennis/Non-India Davis Cup

Just a point on volleys…the recent development in string technology and the type of spin one can generate has made volleying, especially low volleys extremely difficult. It would have been even difficult for Sampras to volley against Nadal.  While i agree that strings have changed, to some extent, ...

Re: ATP Tennis/Non-India Davis Cup

One of the best matches i have ever seen. As a federer fan, though I was really sad for a couple of days. All those wasted opportunities in the first 2 sets. i feel that fed was serving well enough yesterday to borrow sampras' approach in a match. Not always, but yesterday he was serving big enough ...

Re: ATP Tennis/Non-India Davis Cup

I think for all the comparisions between Federer and Sampras, this is one aspect where I felt Sampras was superior. Ok, make that two aspects. One aspect where I feel Sampras was Federer's superior is in mental strength. Sampras, as far as I have seen him, never feared anyone ever. He had so much co...

Did Sania withdraw from Miami ? I am unable to find her name in the player's list or in the draw.

Re: Sania Mirza Tournaments 2008

Regarding racquets, I've always championed the use of heavy racquets that are head-light, and have a medium head-size (not more than 95 sq. in.) for a couple of reasons. Firstly, because they are heavier towards the handle and lighter towards the head, it's easy to generate good racquet head speed t...

Re: US$600,000 WTA Bangalore Open, March 3rd-9th 2008

Sania is not unusually emotional or anything.  She is quite matter-of-fact, and more of a "straight talker" as you say, compared to many others in Indian tennis.  She does not play much political games or anything with other players and officials either - at least that is my impression.  ...

Re: US$600,000 WTA Bangalore Open, March 3rd-9th 2008

I am sad that so many words have been exchanged between previously friendly posters. However, I am also going to support Sania in this one. Sania is an emotional person and I feel she made that statement on the spur of emotions. Perhaps it was a controversial statement, but it reflects how hurt she ...

Re: Sania - Conditioning, Foot Speed, Mobility and Coaching ..

i am also not a very big fan of gilbert as a coach for sania, at least at this point. gilbert is a great tactical coach, and he could definitely help sania get the most out of her arsenal. however, he's not the best coach as far as improving technical aspects of the game. i still believe that paul a...

Re: ATP Tennis/Non-India Davis Cup

sampras - fed exos. what are your takes on them ? i think fed has put himself in a no-win situation. should he beat sampras convincingly, no big deal as it's expected to beat some one 10 yrs older. But, should fed lose even a match, think what will happen to his legacy. it would be disastrous. i rea...

Re: Sania Mirza Tournaments 2007.....

hooorraaayyy !! sania won 6-1, 6-2. as it usually happens for any player outside top-10 playing sania for the first time, they won't know what hit them. same thing happened to safina as it did with petrova, kuznetsova. go sania !! i hope they put her QF on one of the show courts so we can see her li...
