Re: Vijay Singh thread

Vijay Singh won his first major in the Champions tour for se ior golfers. Given how good he was on the PGA tour in his 40s, a little surprised that he hasn't had more success on the oldies tour...

Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...

I think no spinach & no gender issues. She is prodigiously talented, not too trained, unafraid & confident. I think we haven't seen the likes of her in Indian Atheletics. Within 5 months of taking up the event, she has proved herself at the world stage. She is no. 2 in Asia. The no.1 Bahraini woman...

Re: Yuki Bhambri

Given that he has a lot of points to defend at WashingtonDC, he is putting extra pressure on himself by not playing at Atlanta. He should start playing some Challengers as well. That he is treading so gingerly on tour is terrible :damn: While it is terrible, my guess is he is trying to avoid going ...

Yes, solid win! Looks like Saketh is finally getting back somewhere near his pre-injury level.

Re: Indian tennis player rankings

Good to see the depth in the top 100 for doubles. However, none in the top 20 is something we aren't used to in recent times.

Re: 2018 FIFA WORLD CUP RUSSIA

I believe most folks in the US refer to those born in the US from immigrant parents as "first generation." The parents are referred to as immigrants. This may be understood differently in other countries (such as the first floor example).

Re: Wimbledon 2018

Awesome win for Divij! Clearly, he is a very good doubles player given the success he's had with many different partners. If he finds a steady partner, he could become our best doubles player over the next year. Good luck to him in the QF!

Re: Football: Indian National Team news ...

Popularity should be an important element in any decision making. After all winning medals doesn't mean anything beyond lifting the pride and esteem of a country in the sports field. Clearly, even less success in a more popular sport also accomplishes the same goal. For example, winning a hockey gol...

Re: US PGA Tour 2018

Anirban Lahiri had a terrific bogey free 9 under par round today. He is currently leading the tournament with a score of 12 under par. :notworthy: More than half of the players are yet to tee off and his current position will change. Unbelievable round by Anirban! I suspect he will be near the top ...

Best in Asia would be Naomi Osaka I guess
Sorry, Naomi Osaka is really American although technically she represents Japan! Her dad signed her up for Japan based on potential sponsorship opportunities from what I read....

Re: Yuki Bhambri

Vishnu Reddy has conducted a terrific interview with Stephen Koon, Yuki’s current coach. Hopefully he’ll post it here soon. Two points stand out for me: he says this year will be the breakthrough year for Yuki. And Yuki is one of only 2 guys in the top-100 without sponsorship. This aspect is really...

Re: 2018 FIFA WORLD CUP RUSSIA

I'd like to see Brazil win as they have the most one-on-one talent among any of the teams and play an attractive brand of soccer. Belgium would be my second pick.

Re: Wimbledon 2018

Not sure what Atithee's point is in comparing Somdev and Yuki since their relative career paths and talent levels are quite different. Somdev had only top 300 level tennis talent who could grind his way to compete at the ATP level. He overachieved in every sense of the word as no part of his game wa...

Re: Wimbledon 2018

Long way back now. Fabbiano is supposed to have a weak serve, but Yuki clearly has an even weaker one . 10 DFs and a first serve percentage of 57%. I have yet to see anyone in the top 200 who has as weak a serve as Yuki. However, he can generally compensate for that against Fabbiano like opponents ...
