Re: Youth Olympics 2018, Buenos Aires, Argentina, 6th-18th October

We are still a respectable 10th in the medal table with only a few days to go. We are still ahead of Asian powerhouse South Korea although traditional Olympic powers like China and USA have finally moved ahead of us. These results could be a harbinger for better summer olympic performances by India ...

Archana Kamath loses the TT bronze medal match to a Romanian. Lakshya Sen wins his QF against an Indonesian to make the SF of the mens badminton where he meets a Japanese opponent, so another prospective medal for us. Both our hockey 5 teams lose, the men losing 3-4 to Australia while the women lose...

Re: Yuki Bhambri

Wow, his list of injuries keeps mounting and it seems like it spans from shoulder, elbow, knee, and ankles. In essence, he's had injuries in almost all significant joints and he is still one of the only professional tennis players who wears the tennis elbow brace consistently. I guess the abdomen/gr...

Re: Youth Olympics 2018, Buenos Aires, Argentina, 6th-18th October

Amazing performance by the Indians so far! India is currently 3rd in the medals table at this stage, which is quite rare for India in a world level meet. Although it's possible that not all the best are here in each event, it's quite likely that many of the best are competing. Hopefully, these young...

Re: World Chess Olympiad/ World Team Chess

Our men are now in 6th place after the impressive win against Netherlands. They play 4th place Poland while the top 5 teams play each other. A victory for India will leap frog Poland and will put us anywhere from 2-4th based on how the other results play out. Good luck for a win against Poland again...

Re: Indian Wrestling Thread ...

Encouraged to see some Greco-Roman success. I don't normally associate great footwork from most Indian athletes, so it's possible that with some exposure we may be decent in Greco-Roman wrestling in the lower and middle weights.

Re: Junior Circuits Abroad for Indian Kids...

Not sure but Das is generally a Bengali or Assamese surname. Also, some number of Bengalis in the early days went to Pondicherry as part of the Sri Aurobindo (Ghosh) movement so its possible that his father is descended from that bloodline. Perhaps, his mother is Tamilian. In that case, he would be ...

Re: Asian Challengers July-September 2018

Yes, RamK's game has improved on grass this year but has seemingly gotten worse on the other surfaces. Since grass is used in only a small number of tournaments, it doesn't make sense to focus on only developing grass court skills.

Good to see Srikanth get consecutive wins in consecutive top level tournaments! Those doubles scorelines don't look good beyond simply being losses.

Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...

Good to see the optimism! However, given that we haven't won an athletics medal yet, winning our first medal would be quite an achievement. Neeraj Chopra looks like the best bet but he has to continue to improve over the next couple of years to get there...

Yes, disappointing season for the Indian men. All of our top 3 have had short spells when they have looked really good but haven't been able to play well for any length of time.

Re: Davis Cup 2018 - India

I think Divij is our most versatile doubles player and should be an essential part of our future doubles teams. That is, we should look for the best pairing with Divij rather than looking to pair someone with Rohan who isn't as versatile. Of course, Divij and Rohan may be our best pair given their s...

Three or even two medals would be a significant improvement in the Olympics. Since they also win big at the Asian games and the CWG, the shooters are our best investment for the multisport games....
