Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup - Qatar

Well the US finally scored a goal to win a match and beat Iran 1-0 to qualify for the R-16. Up next is the Netherlands. The US has the quality to match Netherlands but the issue with them is to find a goal somehow....

Re: Golf World Rankings of Indians

Dustin Johnson also allegedly received $125 MM as signing bonus from LIV golf, so might be among the highest earning athletes in the world in 2022!

Re: Mens hockey world cup 2023

It is all relative. This would be around 1% of what Qatar has allegedly spent to host the football world cup...

Re: Golf World Rankings of Indians

Anirban had a sensational year in money terms, as he won over $3MM on the PGA tour (which may be his highest ever) and then went ahead and won a similar amount on the LIV tour. Also, it's quite likely he received a signing bonus as well, so he may have generational wealth at this point given the cra...

Re: Chess: World Team Championship 2022, Jerusalem

Given that China will also be there, we would likely not be gold favorites in any case.

This is a measure that FIDE uses. I suspect that we would be up there with the larger numbers as well. Looks like e we are 3rd in the November Open country rankings.

Re: Chess: World Team Championship 2022, Jerusalem

Based on the top 10 player rankings per country, India is 4th in the world behind Russia, US, and China in a “sport” that has well over a hundred countries participating with locally born players. That is arguably the best ranking for us in any sport.

Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup - Qatar

Arguably the US should have won both their matches so far. However, they are lacking a good striker, so will need to score against Iran. I don’t doubt that they have more quality than Iran who will likely sit back like Wales and look to attack on the counter against the US.

Re: Asia-Australia ATP Challengers 2022

I don't know how much value there is being in India #1 given how poor his ranking is although I suppose it plays a part in Davis Cup or Asian Games selection. Otherwise, it is getting to the point of not being noteworthy much as most people don't care about who is Pakistan #1 or Bangladesh #1.

Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup - Qatar

I have always liked Brazil’s style of play, so will be rooting for them to do well. Also hopefully USMNT does well as they have a talented team with most of their top players playing in the top 5 European leagues. Also US clubs (I.e., MLS) have 36 players in the WC which is 6th most after the big 5 ...

Re: Asia-Australia ATP Challengers 2022

Both Watanuki and Shelton went on to win their respective challengers, so Ramk and Prajnesh lost to in form players. Hopefully, that means our guys are in decent form and do well this week!

Re: ATP Tennis/Non-India Davis Cup

Alcaraz is #1 at 19 and Nadal is #2 at 36. Of course, the asterisk is COVID-induced sacking of Djokovic at the Aussie, arguably his favorite slam. But, life is life. Yes, Djokovic is completely under ranked. Not only did he miss the Aus Open but his 2000 points from the Wimbledon title is also not ...

Re: N.American Hard court Challengers 2022

Excellent comeback from Prajnesh from 3-5 down in the third set. I saw the third set and his opponent was really playing well but just got a bit nervous while serving for the match at 5-4 and Prajnesh took advantage. Then, again saved some breakpoints at 5-5. Next one would be really tough though p...

Re: Yuki Bhambri/ Saketh Myneni (pair) Thread

Dedication isn't just not doing something else. Dedication is putting in the hard work to be the best you can be. Most the moves he made were largely due to his talent. Every time he came back from his injury, he'd start playing at a top 100-150 level almost right away including when he came back th...

Re: Yuki Bhambri/ Saketh Myneni (pair) Thread

He is definitely committed to being a doubles specialist given that he could have used some of his PRs to get into meaningful singles draws and didn’t. However, he wasn’t the most dedicated singles player and is perhaps even less dedicated as an doubles player.
