Re: ITF M25 series, Indore/Bhopal/Chennai, Jan 2025
Doubles is definitely the step child in the tennis world with doubles prize money being 1/8 per person relative to singles. However, the top doubles players are still professionals. Prize money earnings for the top 20 doubles players are likely more than those that play badminton or table tennis. I ...

^^^I like the spirit above! It’s like saying we are a Chess and Kabaddi country, who cares about the Olympics or Soccer. We used to be a cricket country until we aren’t.

Re: ATP Tennis/Non-India Davis Cup
Djokovic demolished Machac in the 3rd round in straight sets. Odds makers have him as the 3rd favorite after Sinner and Alcaraz.

Re: Manas Dhamne thread
^^^M15 and M25 are pretty stingy for winning 1 round in MD, you only get 1 ATP point. You have to string together a few wins to start making significant moves up.

Re: Manas Dhamne thread
Despite the loss, this is an encouraging result for Manas. Competing well against a #380 (and proportionate UTR rating) indicates a higher level of play than he has shown in the past, so hopefully this will be his breakout year on the ITF tour.

Re: Other Indian Golfers thread
I recall Rayhan being highly touted as a youngster. Since then his progress has been steady but slow. Played 5 years in college and played decently. Now he has just cracked the top 1000 OWGR at age 25 but golf is a sport where you can be good for pretty long, so he could still have a long and succes...

Re: Manas Dhamne thread
That is a quality win by Manas! Hopefully, he can get a couple more wins even though the second round opponent is tougher.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
It will also be a good gauge of the form he is in. His game isn’t great for hard courts except the slowest ones, so hopefully he goes deep in these clay court events. Iirc, he has done well in the past in the clay events in South America, so the environment isn’t that unfamiliar to him. Good luck to...

Re: Nishesh Basavareddy thread
He is pretty much already playing at close to top 50 level. Remember his ATP ranking is based on half a years effort on the tour, so if he stays fit he’ll get to 50-60 in a few months. However, he will need to improve his physicality to get to top 20 or similar levels. Not ruling that out yet as Sta...

Re: Nishesh Basavareddy thread
Game wise Nishesh was fantastic! He pretty much matched the current Novak on the court on stroke play. Even his serve was fine as serves at 190+ on most first serves but didn’t have the angles that the taller Novak had. He will need to work on his physicality though to get to the very top. Even from...

Re: Manas Dhamne thread
I perhaps recalled incorrectly as I don't see him winning a J300 tournament on the ITF website. He did win a Grade B1 Asian event in 2022 (beating Aryan Shah in the final) and I thought those were the top regionally restricted tournaments with big points. Perhaps in the early post-Covid era we didn'...

Re: Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi thread
That's good to know. She then has a sufficient frame to develop the physical skills needed to truly be a top contender. Of course, the development of tennis skills is still the most important growth area but at the top most levels one needs to be strong in all aspects of this reasonably physical spo...

Re: Your opinion on dedollarisation
There is no way that any of these individual currencies will gain significant adoption. They would have to introduce a new currency (a “Brick”) like the Europeans did with the Euro. However the European countries have more in common than the BRICS whose only thing in common is their low per capita i...
