Re: Grass tournaments (Challengers & ATP/WTA tour) 2019

My sense is that he isn't fully fit and therefore playing somewhat tentatively. At this level, playing at 80-90% is going to result in easy losses. Since Anning and his run at IW/Miami, he is 2-7 with one of those being a 3 set win over #615. He played some of his best tennis at IW/Miami but appears...

How very frustrating that they don't just play another super over. I hate the tiebreaker rules. Keep playing one over at a time until someone wins. Just like penalty kicks if they are tied after 5 apiece.
Or even 1 ball at a time!

Re: Grass tournaments (Challengers & ATP/WTA tour) 2019

Minor correction. RamK actually broke serve in the 9th game of the 3rd set to win 6-3. Good solid win overall for RamK. Hope he gets a good opponent in the MD. Potential opponents are Bublik (#83), Jung (#127), Mischa Zverev (#209), or Stakhovsky (#145). Probably Jung would give him the best chance ...

Ramk continues his resurgence!

[R3] (8) Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,151) d JC Aragone (USA,256) 7-6(6), 6-3

Up next:

Re: World Cup 2019

This is a little bit of bad break for India if the remaining overs aren't played out in the NZ innings as I don't think NZ would have made much more than 250-255 in 50 overs. Compared to that making 237 in 46 overs or 223 in 40 overs seems like a tougher ask than if we played the full 50 overs. Let'...

Re: Wimbledon 2019

So the Indian challenge at Wimbledon is over. Sharan/Demoliner is looking a strong pairing. I hope they persist for awhile together. Disappointing that none of our doubles warriors could survive into the second week. Allison Riske made the QF upsetting the top seed. She is going to be married to St...

Re: Pre-US Open Challengers, July-August 2019

As returning finalist he is deserving of a WC to the Newport ATP. On tennis channel last year, I recall some of the organizers at the tournament speaking highly of RamK's interactions with the tournament folks, so hopefully that will also work in his favor.

Re: World Cup 2019

I didn't understand why chasing would not work. If they bowl Bangladesh out for 170 and chase the target in 16 overs (which should be doable), that should suffice, shouldn't it? 170 in 16 overs ~ 520 in 50; hence a difference of 350. Not sure I understand your math. I believe they use the NRR (Net ...

Re: World Cup 2019

Yes, Pak is facing an impossible task. Not only must they score 500 in their 50 overs but they must also bowl out Bangladesh for around 170 in 50 overs. So, they are done...

Re: Sumit Nagal thread

From that website it appears that Sumit's fitness is being managed by Milos Galecic who was also Somdev's fitness trainer. Looks like he has made a significant difference to Sumit's performance in these tough clay challengers in Europe.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread

Sumit does grind out a win! [QF] (8) Sumit Nagal (IND,224) d. Aslan Karatsev (RUS,343) 6-4, 7-6(4) He did fight back after being 1-3 and 3-5 down in the second set. Sumit is now a #204 in the live rankings which would be a career high. A title would get him to around 180. Up next, [SF] Sumit Nagal (...

Re: World Cup 2019

Torn between England and Pakistan on I would prefer to be out of the last 4 stage since I would not like either of those countries to advance further. Would be great if SL or Bangladesh can come through. If we beat England, perhaps we can play our bench against Bangladesh and SL...

Re: Sumit Nagal thread

Great to see this consistency from Sumit! Great opportunity to make his 5th clay SF in the last few months! He is definitely playing at a very good level on clay (at least at a top 150 level and perhaps higher). Whether he gets near the top 100 will depend on whether he can do well on hard courts. O...

Re: Wimbledon 2019

A rant about irrelevant rants: Part (1) Literally, no one on this board is a fan of the AITA. Perhaps, many moons ago, there might have been some praise for Sunil Yajaman running an effective junior program but literally no one is fan of anything the AITA has done in recent times. Part (2) - Ranting...

Re: Wimbledon 2019

Very disappointing grass season from RamK. Was hoping he could springboard his finals appearance in Newport into a solid 2018-2019 season. Unfortunately he's going to find himself outside the top 200 in a few weeks time unless he shocks us all and does well in Newport, assuming he even makes it int...
