Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)

Happy that we got 3rd place, but our inability to string together 2 consecutive good performances is a bit worrying. This format is a great help to our team as we are not eliminated as usual in the pool stages because of this inconsistency. I feel the next improvement that the coaching staff will be...

Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)

Sameer: agree with your last post. We are not quite good enough to beat the best 4/5 teams at the moment. Due to our maddening inconsistency we are capable of losing to England, NZ & Spain regularly too. However, we are not outclassed and are getting draws and even wins occasionally against the top ...

Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)

We have managed to hang on and get our 3rd medal at a world level event in 2 years. Well done to the team and coaches. Germany were amazing with 13 fit players v Australia and even better with 11 against us. But as Jay stated: That shows they are just a better team and we are still not at the top-5 ...

Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)

As usual, soon as I started following the match, we concede. We are also picking up lots of cards today and conceding PCs at the usual rate.

Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)

We'll be playing Germany for the bronze. Today, they played their hearts out with only 13 players but lost 3-0 to Australia. I think their squad has been reduced due to stomach problems and this doesn't reflect well on the host. Earlier this week, Holland and England had the same issues. Even with 1...

Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)

Very disappointing to lose a semi final, but have to commend the team for fighting hard. We just didn't have the quality to open up the Argentinian defence. The playing conditions were very difficult and that ruined the spectacle as the ball could not be moved around at speed. The umpiring was to be...

Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)

Argentina looked very good against England. Their forwards- Mazilli, Villa and Paredes were fantastic. It will be tough to beat them, but I don't think they are as physical as the Europeans or Australia & NZ. Going back to our QF win, I was amazed to see us creating so many turnovers and covering ou...

Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)

Damn, it was a great pass by Harmanpreet but Mandeep tries to go for glory instead of passing to Akashdeep. This is the kind of stuff that happens repeatedly. So many times in the past, someone -usually Sardar or occasionally Manpreet- would create an opening with a brilliant pass or dribble and ou...

Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)

Damn...wish we could have held on, but soon as I saw 10+ mins left it was guaranteed we would concede. Have to be thankful we didn't lose 4-3.

We are in the semis....wow. :bounce:

Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)

Belgium are looking the best team in this tournament so far. They dominated Argentina, thrashed Spain 5-0 and are now leading the Dutch 2-0. In the QF, we don't stand much of a chance unless they have a poor day and we somehow play brilliantly. The Dutch have bought a few youngsters, which explains ...

Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)

Not sure if we have regressed. I think we are at the same level as Oltmans' teams, but we simply haven't got quality forwards and our inconsistency is maddening. Defending was great against Australia but in the very next game, we dropped our intensity and unforced errors were happening all over the ...

Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)

2-0 still with 5 mins left
Never really expected us to get a result against Germany. We will play Belgium in the QF and going by the form shown so fay, we have almost no chance.
Germany have held possession much better than us and it's no surprise to be losing this one.

Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)

Back to normal service with a 3-2 loss to England. Errors at the back and sloppy play and late goal conceded. I think we will finish bottom of the pool and run into Belgium in the QF.
They will be too good for us.

Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)

This is a very encouraging result. Australia are rebuilding after their poor showing in Rio, but this is their strongest team (barring a couple of injuries), so a draw is fine for us. Usually we are overwhelmed by an Aussie team, but today we were pretty good on the stats, except for PCs which were ...

Re: Indian Weightlifting Thread ...

Great news.

A quick search shows the Rio winner at this weight lifted 92 +108 kgs & 2nd placed lifter achieved 85 +107, so this is very encouraging (if no 'vegetables' are involved ;) )

At Rio, Mirabai Chanu managed 84 kg & 3 failed attempts at 104/106
