Re: Men's and Women's Hockey World Cups

Close game v England. A draw is better than the usual outcome against this opposition. We had 7 PCs and Sharmila Devi did a 'Mandeep' in front of an open goal (mis trapped!!), but England had 2 or 3 great chances too. Now we have to beat China who have improved a lot under their new coach, Alyson An...

Re: India in England, summer of 2021

Fully expected this course of events once Bairstow got his first innings century. Our batting in the 3rd innings was awful and the bowling in the 4th terrible. Conceding at 4.5 an over is pathetic. This is why I was hoping for rain. England are playing with incredible confidence and belief. Only ano...

Re: India in England, summer of 2021

England are playing with real confidence under Stokes' captaincy. Our batting is worse than NZ, so my main hope is weather saving us. Can't see our bowlers rescuing the team after the expected failure of the batsmen. Chances of rain are around 12-15% on most days, so looks unlikely that weather will...

Re: Indian Women's Hockey

3rd in the Pro league is excellent. However, we have to be realistic as we got outplayed by Belgium and were flattered by getting points off an U21 German and 3rd string Dutch team. England couldn't travel due to covid and that gave us 6 'free' points. That said, we played very well in some matches ...

Re: India at Commonwealth Games, Birmingham, July 28- August 8, 2022

Going back to the hockey selections; how can Mandeep or Akashdeep get in ahead of Dilpreet or Pawan Rajbar? I'm pretty sure Graham Reid has no say in the selections.

We should withdraw from this POS games.
Yes, these games are a hark back to imperial superiority. I favour a complete withdrawal from these pointless event.

Re: FIH Men's Pro League

Watched the 2 games v the Dutch. We played well in parts but the Dutch were just better at keeping possession, defended properly (see below) and were faster and more incisive when attacking and made far fewer silly errors compared to us. Our PCs never looked like succeeding as their 1st runners simp...

Re: India at Commonwealth Games, Birmingham, July 28- August 8, 2022

Don't see the logic of this squad. As you all know, I have no time for Mandeep & Akashdeep. Jarmanpreet is almost as maddening as these 2. Pawan Rajbar is a must in the first team. Look at the difference Abhishekh has made in the few matches he's played so far. In defence, I'd have selected Sanjay i...

Re: FIH Men's Pro League

3 good performances over the past 7-8 days. I watched a replay of the 1st match v. Belgium on https://watch.hockey/. We matched them in almost all departments, except finishing and PC conversions. It was very interesting to hear our former coach, Sjoerd Marijne co-commentating and explaining some of...

Re: FIH Men's Pro League

Haven't been able to watch any of this weekend's matches, but quite decent showing by our men. After the inconsistent results since Tokyo, I had an uneasy feeling that we might get a hammering from the Belgians. Let's hope for a similar showing v the Dutch.

Re: Indian Women's Hockey

Ouch. That's a bad loss. Belgium are a very good team. They have improved a lot in the past 4-5 years. The key has been their brilliant domestic national league. Something we have no plans to copy.

Re: Indian domestic cricket/ players

by Atithee » Sun Jun 12, 2022 5:48 am What BCCI needs most is for ALL players to play in domestic games. India is the only country where our Demi-Gods are above playing in domestics. Only the discards sometimes go to get noticed again as penance. That’s why the domestic matches are currently a wast...

Re: FIH Men's Pro League

Very good result v Belgium today. Didn't see the match, but Belgium had their strongest line up, so very pleased to pick up 2 points. I'm hoping we can put up another good show tomorrow. Then we have 2 matches v Netherlands. Tough ending to our Pro League program. Had we avoided the losses to France...

Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...

But you are right, i too think i probably have become cynical. They say with age comes wisdom, not sure how much of that is true but i can vouch for the fact that following Indian sports one gets more cynical, pessimistic as they age :) Couldn't have put this any better. But like gluttons, we keep ...
