Re: Asian champions trophy

Korea were the better team in both matches. I feel we have gone backwards a bit. Our attacking play is not good enough to beat the better teams. We seem too eager to just whack the ball into the circle from any point in the opposition half. Marijne seems unable to use any other plans. Our tackling i...

Re: Asian champions trophy

We beat Malaysia 3-2 today, but it was a very 'Indian' performance'! By this I mean we did all of these in large quantities: miss really clear cut chances, mess up PC routines, concede needlessly, tackled like amateurs and got cards. This was game we should have won by 4-5 goals at least. Malaysia h...

Re: Asian champions trophy

The tournament is being streamed live on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsAxUdF7rDA&feature=youtu.be Really excellent quality stream. Nice wins against Japan and China. We look ok in this competition because the opposition is similar (or weaker in Malaysia's case) physically to us. We have rested ...

Re: Misc. news about Indian hockey

This article shows the poor showing in both circles: http://fieldhockey.com/index.php/comments/39708-marijne-life-as-indian-men-s-hockey-coach-cut-short-thanks-to-missed-chances It wasn't just the CWG that this kind of inefficiency (or panic) cost us badly. What do you expect when we have 2 of the m...

Re: Misc. news about Indian hockey

One of the concerns is the knee jerk reactions after a bad tournament or two. We have been cr*p for so many decades that if we don't have a good run, the coach should not be dumped so quickly. The sensible thing to do would have been to tweak the selection policy and keep the coaches till the end of...

Re: Misc. news about Indian hockey

As expected, the coach has been removed. In fact the men's and women's coaches have switched around. Not sure if this is a good thing, because Harendra has had a few attempts at the men's job and been pretty poor. However, he impressed me with his U21 stint between 2014-2016 and also with his (short...

Re: Junior Indian Hockey - men and women

Our boys made hard work of beating Malaysia in the final. We led 4-2 with just 2-3 mins remaining, but we can all guess what happened?...equaliser was conceded with 2-3 seconds remaining. Thankfully, we won the shoot out, but it was (yet another) game that we dominated and somehow managed to screw u...

Re: Misc. news about Indian hockey

I have a feeling that Marijne is going to be sacked. The 'senior' players and HI are not happy with the CWG performance and are questioning Marijne's methods. Everyone is trying to find a scapegoat. The culprits (selectors, 'senior' players and HI) will stay on and the coach is always the easy targe...

The Asian qualifier for the Youth Olympics has started in Thailand. Here's the link to our matches: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZ6cghn8dPY Vivek and Maninder played in last year's Sultan Of Johor Cup and Vivek played in the CWG. This is for U18s The matches today were easy, but Pakistan could o...

Re: Misc. news about Indian hockey

This is embarrassing for the president of FIH: http://www.thehindu.com/sport/hockey/batra-warned-and-fined/article23659661.ece It was a silly outburst and not expected from a 'president' of an organisation as important as the FIH. However, he has behaved poorly before- sacking of Walsh, interfering ...

Re: Indian Shooting thread

Yes, kick out sports that favour Asian countries but keep elite/expensive sports that the majority of the Commonwealth nations do not participate in. Standard imperialist behaviour! Actually, is there any real point in having these games? Quite a few of the top competitors in athletics gave them a m...

Re: Commonwealth Games 2018, Gold Coast, Australia, April 5-14

Going back to sports that the CWG are keeping, there are lots of medals in cycling and swimming. These are dominated by the 'white' countries. I'm in favour of keeping sports that are popular in most of the commonwealth countries and removing cycling at least.

Re: Commonwealth Games 2018, Gold Coast, Australia, April 5-14

Slightly disappointing last 2 days in terms of golds that we could have won. In fact 2014 was a similar story, because we seemed to lose most of the finals. Let's hope we win the men's doubles in badminton, but as we are against an English pair, it's only going to end in the usual way ;) Lost 1st se...

Re: Hockey at the Gold Coast 2018 - XXI Commonwealth Games, Australia - 5-14 April

The stats show that we had 35 circle penetrations while England had 22. Yet we had only 1 pc while they had 7. This is because of this: So many times we would get into the opposition circle and our players would do the silliest things. Almost every time our players just lose composure once in the c...

Re: Hockey at the Gold Coast 2018 - XXI Commonwealth Games, Australia - 5-14 April

Don't know what to make of Marijne. I thought he was doing some good things but last 2 tournaments have been very disappointing. We have zero plan in attack. It's a crash ball every time and in defence, we have reverted to slackness and errors in our own third of the pitch. Most crosses into our D i...
