Re: Tokyo Olympic 2020 qualification

Agree with Jaydeep. Performances were good in last 2 matches. A huge improvement over Hawgood's teams of a couple of years ago. It was obvious that Hawgood was pathetic, yet HI kept him for years and even reappointed him after he'd left. Usual nonsensical decision making by HI. It's also very obviou...

Re: Tokyo Olympic 2020 qualification

Our ladies have won their FIH series final in Japan. They beat the hosts 3-1 in the final. Opposition wasn't the toughest, but pleasing to see a win in a final ;)

I think Japan may have fielded an extra experimental team.

Re: World Cup 2019

Dhoni back to his 'regular' form. In tight situations like this, sensible batting could have got us to 240 or even 250. Bowlers did very well although Jadeja would have been very useful.

Re: Tokyo Olympic 2020 qualification

We put in 2 good performances in the semi and final to win the tournament. Couldn't see any of the matches. Slightly underwhelming group games, especially the Poland one. Highlights and commentary seem to suggest lots of chances missed and PC striking was poor. Stick2hockey's commentary had the usua...

Re: Tokyo Olympic 2020 qualification

We play Japan in the semi final, while USA and RSA meet in the other semi. Given the erratic form from our team, we are capable of messing up against Japan. On a separate note, I watched Belgium thrash Germany 8-0 in a Pro League match today. The standard of play from the Belgians was incredible. Th...

Re: Tokyo Olympic 2020 qualification

We have started with a 10-0 win over Russia and today beat Poland 3-1. To put this result in to context, we beat them 10-0 in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup. We had no coach then! That's the kind of 'progress' we are famous for! Totally expected given the forwards selected. Also gifted a goal...also tota...

Re: Tokyo Olympic 2020 qualification

Jaydeep, my thoughts exactly regarding omissions of the promising players and inclusion of the dross. Really frustrating to see the stupidity of the selections. Most international (maybe even club!) teams would have dropped Mandeep, Akashdeep and Amit Rohidas after 10-20 games! Mandeep just runs aro...

Re: Misc. news about Indian hockey

Graham Reid has been confirmed as coach: http://sportscafe.in/articles/hockey/2019/apr/08/graham-reid-appointed-as-chief-coach-of-indian-mens-hockey-team Any bets on how long he will last? I expect till 2020 Olympics or earlier if we fail to qualify. My advice to HI is to start looking for his repla...

Re: Sultan Azlan Shah tournament

Reports and highlights seem to indicate a game that we should have won easily was squandered by poor finishing and the incomparable Amit Rohidas gifting the equalizer to the Koreans. After his disgraceful foul in the WC QF, Amit Rohidas deserved to be discarded for a long time. I have moaned about h...

Re: Sultan Azlan Shah tournament

As expected, we lost the final. I saw us leading 1-0 at half time and just knew we would concede and contrive to lose. Pathetic ending, but entirely in keeping with our history. Didn't watch the match so can't comment on the performance.

Re: Sultan Azlan Shah tournament

Good result v Malaysia today. Just watched the highlights. Standard panic defending in the last few minutes gifted Malaysia a 2nd goal. Otherwise we cr*p with PC conversions- 1 out of 9. Malaysia were poor too, with 1 out 6 or 7. Sumit jnr looks excellent in attack. He was very impressive in his pre...

Re: Sultan Azlan Shah tournament

1-1 draw with Korea, with the equaliser conceded with seconds remaining. No change there. No way of watching the matches as only Malaysian channels have the broadcasting rights. Reports seem to suggest panic at the end as we conceded 5 PCs in the last few minutes. Still a draw is better than usual i...

Re: Sultan Azlan Shah tournament

Team selected for 2019 SAS cup. No coach appointed yet, so most likely to be David John ('Low' performance director!!) in charge. As usual, Mandeep is retained. Soon as I see this guy in the team , I groan. Amit is also retained despite his atrocious play in the WC QF v Holland. Our selectors are no...

Re: Australia's tour of India

Bowling has been dreadful since I started watching which about the 13th over. 6s coming so easily. Kaul played to his potential (which is c**p)
Into the last over and only 7 off 4 balls. Easy for Maxwell and he proves it by whacking a 6. Maxwell has toyed with dross being served by our bowlers

Re: Australia's tour of India

Umeash Yadav and Dhoni are the opposition's best players. Utter tripe from both of these guys :damn: :damn:

Umesh couldn't defend 12 of the last over and Dhoni...was just his usual self.
