Re: Is Cricket a
Cricket is a very good model for an international sport in that you concentrate on very competitive teams. Instead of too many average sides who have no chance of winning.. Being a global sport brings one advantage- a style unique to a region so cricket may miss a south American style or north Ameri...

Re: Post-mortem on the Rio Olympics disaster
Economy is the real weakness. however its not as if paltry spending on sports has promoted growth elsewhere. If you want better growth, then one can demand more innovative and competitive ways to grow markets both internal and external..accompanied by social development like high primary school enro...

Re: Post-mortem on the Rio Olympics disaster
cricket is usually a top 4 sport and has especially captured the imagination of the subcontinent and in the summer time it is big in australia. It will be difficult for other sports to get the same amount of attention and money...football and tennis have potential but our players are not competitive...

Re: Post-mortem on the Rio Olympics disaster
Olympic Gold Quest posted nice post on facebook about performance of their athletes. I am not expecting much from the government or any other federation in terms of port mortem. I do think that this time around, the government sanctioned enough funds for training. . True. only to win scrapes like 4...

Re: Post-mortem on the Rio Olympics disaster
The main failure of the govt/federation IMO is the failure to tap talent even in the bigger cities. right now do you see any superstars from the rural areas even in cricket? The batting superstars are still from the metros. It certainly cannot be too hard trying to promote the best coaching they can...

Re: P. V. Sindhu thread - Rio Olympics Silver medal winner
Recommended money is in the range of 10000 crores and not comparable to the 'gifts' here. The same money would be well spent on building infrastructure, facilities, hiring of experts coaches and spreading the game around the country. That is more efficient way of developing sports and athletes

Re: Post-mortem on the Rio Olympics disaster
^^^ This brought up something I had thought about for a while. Is there a programmable rabbit system out there? Either a robot-vehicle that can be set to go at a certain running profile or a virtual reality system like a treadmill with a rabbit projected on screen? Otherwise, India should make one ...

@genius -- Usually I do not take your bait but will succumb to your most uncivil attitude that you ALWAYS display this time. this is hypocrisy at its highest! Remember you are the guy who specifically made a few insulting posts directed at me personally before ,whereas i have not proactively...

Re: Cricket World Cup 2011 - in the sub-continent
Sachin, Sehwag The new ball was dangerous on that surface . you can always get that unplayable delivery with the new ball and these are natural middle order players we are talking about.they didn't get out because of tentativeness or anything, just awkward deliveries from an unorthodox bowler who wa...

Re: Cricket World Cup 2011 - in the sub-continent
:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: Hail the seven batsmen! this was a wide open WC where we were not "undisputed favourties" and had weaknesses to hide. Team india hid the weaknesses or overcame the weaknesses with our mighty 7 man lineup , over three crucial matches against strong oponen...

Re: Cricket World Cup 2011 - in the sub-continent
samaraweera and chamara are solid bats but they lack explosiveness and striking ability. to put them under pressure, a above par total is required to expose this. or they can grind their way around 4-5.5. And this time we have a realistic chance.last time, only australia chasing would have been a sl...

Re: Cricket World Cup 2011 - in the sub-continent
what a most moronic decision! the two losers i do not want are playing today and they can't field either! this certainly gives the opposition a inspiration. if there is anyone who shud not be playing, its those two! just becuase harbhajan is an unintelligent bowler who can't perform against pakistan...

Re: Cricket World Cup 2011 - in the sub-continent
SL is too top order heavy . too much pressure on matthews to finish matches.depth will always be a problem for them. Their spinners won't have the same effect on other subcontinent sides.murali has lost his zip and i doubt he can rediscover his past in one day. mendis is worked out by both india and...

Re: Cricket World Cup 2011 - in the sub-continent
The lack of the 7th batsman killed SA. we won because of our 7th batsman yet again! what a difference it makes between winning and losing! SA could not recover from their wobble because they had only botha and peterson.nz may not have great bowlers but their bowlers are not as unintelligent as the o...

Re: Cricket World Cup 2011 - in the sub-continent
In the last 24 years and 6 WCs (excluding the current), Aussies have made 5 finals and won four of them... What a performance :notworthy: ... And I am really scared about the next game; Pakistan is a very unpredictable team and it seems they have come together at the right time... they are a second...
