Re: Sumit Nagal thread

Wonderful of Sumit to climb the ranking with a well earned victory on home turf - cement I mean! Looks like Somdev is helping, at least court side. At the US Open he had a physio helping. A traveling coach would be nice. Hope to see more of him in person. Go Sumit!

Re: US Open 2023, August 22- Sep 10, 2023

I watched up close on Tuesday and saw all of our players give their best. Even though Indian tennis is in the doldrums, the effort and standard is heartening. Sumit provide a great test in the second set, and Karman just got behind trying to close out the match. She just goes all out all the time, a...

Re: Sumit Nagal thread

Agree - Sumit is quick and is the only Indian presently that can leave skid marks on a hard court!

Gautam, Enjoy reading about Rohan’s tennis journey. Can’t believe that little kid is now playing at this level! Kudos for the effort as a parent. Hope to see him play in the near future.

Re: US Open 2022

Made a point to get to the USO to watch Yuki today and I was rewarded. It was hot and Yuki seemed to feel it. He played almost flawlessly. It is such a pleasure to see him play after such a long time. He does everything well. Such a joy to watch! I am sorry that I can’t see him the rest of the week,...

Re: Sania Mirza Comeback (2020-22). Retired 2023

Watched Sania today at the Miami Open and she played great and was the dominant player on court. She won 6-3, 7-6 and her serve was great! It’s a pity she is retire at end of this year - I think. Will miss her game.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread

What a win! I saw the second set, and Sumit was playing closer to the baseline than I have seen him before. He consistently served out wide on the ad court, and did not change anything. It all worked. He walked like he was cramping between points, but that is his gait! Some of the best center fielde...

Re: Rohan Belday thread

Gautam, 5' 11"! Last I saw him, he was less than 5'. What are you feeding him? Jersey Corn? Nice to keep up with young tennis talent. Is he going to a local high school, or a tennis academy? He will be a ringer on the local NJ tennis scene. Best wishes.

Re: Rohan Belday thread

Gautam, Congratulations on the progress of your son's tennis. It is quite a feat for a 14 year old to play tournaments abroad. It is a pity we could not meet this year at the US Open, but there is always next year. Best wishes to Rohan in his tennis journey.

OK - got to vote. Don't want to be one of those Florida voters in 2000, with the hanging chads!

Re: The Dr Bhushan Sharma 2019 Indian Tennis Player Of the Year

My vote is for Sumit Nagal, based on battling on clay, tenacity, all-roundness of his game, and movement up the ranking. I'm not sure how one votes!

Re: East Asian Challengers, 2019

Wonderful to read about some classic tennis played by RamK. Jay's write-up was a pleasure to read. Hope RamK keeps this up, and doesn't revert to hanging out 10 feet behind the base line and chasing balls endlessly. Nothing like a sharply hit forehand cross court.

Re: Rohan Bopanna thread...

Gautam, No - I cannot make the night matches. Live too far away. Federer was not himself yesterday, and an era is coming to an end. I saw Monfils and Berratinni up close and enjoyed their tennis. One of them can give Nadal a run for the money.
