Re: ATP Tennis/Non-India Davis Cup

Yes, Tennis is very hard on the body, much more than any other contemporary sport i know. Except boxing and wrestling.

And Tennis is but a blip on the radar of a kid currently growing up in the U.S. Definitely an old man's sport. Too many things competing for one's attention these days.

Re: "Asia Reborn"

PK, Congrats on the book! Always found your posts keenly insightful even when we have had our differences. i can't seem to find a copy here in the US (either paperback or audiobook, not a fan of eBooks). Anybody know? Just got back from a month long trip to Kerala. Much water has flowed in the Periy...

Re: ATP Tennis/Non-India Davis Cup

Formats are shortened in this era of instant gratification. How else will one have time to check Twitter and Pinterest?

Is T5 cricket here yet? :)

Re: Sumit Nagal thread

As an aside, it is nice to see the $25 K bump for the Futures. Are central banks printing money or something?

A glimmer of elation in the journeyman circuit. Go Sumit!

Re: Davis Cup 2015- India

Leander and me are like brothers.. says Stephanek.

Memories of Somdev beating Tipsarevic means he can surely take care of the Czechs here. Stephanek appears the wildcard and will possibly step in if the tie is live on day 3. Intriguing matchup between teams ranked #1 and #21.

Re: Rajeev Ram thread...

And Rajeev WINS Newport for the second time. First time was back in 2009. What an awesome achievement this is!

For some perspective, Leander won Newport (beating Pete Sampras, iirc) for his only ATP singles title. Somdev has got to two finals (Chennai, 2009 & Johannesburg, 2011).

Re: IPTL 2014

Love this format which tennis sorely needs. Even better than the WTT here in the US which i saw live this past summer. Happy to see Roger Federer & Gael Monfils in India.

Re: Somdev Dev Varman ...

Scott McCain is currently coaching (a small amount of time) at the tennis academy my two boys train at in the Austin metro. He is contracted with Somdev at least until Wimbledon this year.

He has a very keen eye for correcting technique.

Re: Rutuja Bhosale thread

Slightly OT. Ratnika Batra has committed to Texas (Longhorns). This is quite a coup for Ratnika.

PS: And yes, Texas is maniacal on (American) Football and Cheerleading. The idiocy always brings a smile on me.

Re: Indian Economy

From the Sydney Morning Herald, on the recent crash of the rupee . With inflation still at 9.3 per cent last year and possibly higher in 2013, the new governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Raghuram Rajan, has his work cut out for him. His job is to decide the supply of rupees, and by slowing ...

New RBI directives
The headline is sensational, but the changes appear broad and swaying. Anybody want to take a stab at the implications? PK, pretty please.

Just one thought for now. Banning import of gold coins, really?

Hmmm...

And an Electrical Engineer to boot :)

Think it is a refreshing change from the recent American appointments to comparable positions.
