Re: India's Dream Cricket Test Team

We are back in the "peak vs longevity" impasse that affects every such debate. You have to start by defining if you are picking this dream team based on peak performance in a season / year or based on entire careers. Both Vengsarkar & Amarnath had very high peaks - Vengsarkar was probably the best b...

Re: India in England, 2018

Karthik is a joke who has parlayed a quota selection into an India "career". The only complete disappointment for me here is Rahane. I actually hoped for better from him. The rest of them have always been susceptible to good swing bowling.

Re: India in England, 2018

Why is everyone calling for Pujara? What has he shown you on away pitches that makes you think he's better than Rahul?

Re: India in England, 2018

Plus we have to find a better keeper. Saha seems out long term with injury, perhaps for good. Is there really no one else?

seems to suggest that qualifying will be confined to four players, of whom two will make it in
That is exactly how I read it, and it is strange indeed. Has to be a mistake?

Zero reason to be discouraged. Played one bad set at the end & that made the difference, but he punched above his weight all week. The strong serving will help on hard courts, albeit not as much as on grass.

Re: ATP Tournaments in North America, July-August 2018

Apparently they are trying to squeeze the match in during breaks in the weather - expecting more delays. Hopefully RamK has prepared accordingly.

Re: ATP Tournaments in North America, July-August 2018

So far the tournament has announced that play will start no earlier than noon local (US EDT) because of weather. I think they can postpone the final to tomorrow if necessary.

Re: ATP Tournaments in North America, July-August 2018

Steve Johnson wins his semi-final easily, so it is RamK vs Johnson in the final tomorrow. Johnson is a former world #21 & will start as the favorite, but this is an eminently winnable match. All the best to RamK!

This has cost him 2 GS now and almost certainly any hopes of surpassing Federer in GS count.
Depends on whether you think Federer is winning more GS or not. Nadal should still be the overwhelming favorite for the FO for the next 3-4 years, which alone should get him to 20...

Re: 2018 FIFA WORLD CUP RUSSIA

I used to use "first-gen" and "second-gen" as you do, and have changed over time because the other usage is more common here. Back to soccer & nationality - what do you think of all the cases of brothers playing for different countries? The Boateng brothers are half Ghanaian & half German, both born...

Re: 2018 FIFA WORLD CUP RUSSIA

Atithee - I wasn't disagreeing with you, just pointing out that many of those born in France are first generation. I believe all but 3 on the squad could have also played for another country, including Griezmann & Fernandez for Spain. Some of those born in France have siblings playing for other coun...

Haven’t checked, but I think several of the “immigrants” are born in France
16 of 23 are either foreign born or first generation. I don't know the breakout.
