Might as well start this thread now. I doubt India will do any better in Paris!!
ps: Knowing that we really did a lot better in Tokyo, after starting a similar thread about 5 years back (after Rio).... This will become an SI tradition now.

Re: Pre-mortem on the Tokyo Olympics disaster
Arjun and Jay were on point - early on, in this thread. Expecting 6 medals at-least in Tokyo. As of now, we are at 5 and just 1 more to fulfill their projections from 5 years back! Mens hockey definitely gave us all a great big smile and joy yesterday by winning Bronze. Will the women follow through...

Re: Tokyo Olympic 2020 - Hockey
I just switched on and wtf.. they played good 7-10 seconds without a clock running and sure we concede a PC in last 6 seconds .. wow how much more cheating can the umpire do ? recorded the last 30 secs of match play - but more like 41 secs - because of the clock getting stuck for 10 secs!! That las...

Re: Tokyo Olympics 2020
They should maybe train like how Abhinav Bindra did. He caved under pressure at Athens but came back to win the gold at Beijing. He talks a lot about the kind of training he put himself through (physical and mental included) before Beijing and that paid off. I don’t quite remember the exact details...

Re: Tokyo Olympics 2020
Meanwhile, a 13 year old Japanese girl wins Olympic gold in Skateboard and another 13 year old wins silver. Good for those kids, while India continues to struggle winning Olympic medals.... ps: be nice, be kind and please don't use phrases that are borderline online bullying "mental cry babies&...

Re: Coronavirus SARS-Cov2 (COVID-19)
That would imply that they have data (hopefully) that give them confidence that there is no safety concern and that only efficacy is being tested, to speed up the Phase-III. Pretty much what I guessed. They should've explained these things first. Not sure what ethical concerns I may be missing in m...

Re: Coronavirus SARS-Cov2 (COVID-19)
Take a look at today's summary . I had to change the definition of "bad areas" to those with 50% more growth than the national average (which is now generally only around 2 to 2.25 percent). So even the bad areas really only have about 3.5 to 4.5% growth. And only 10% of the current cases...

Re: Coronavirus SARS-Cov2 (COVID-19)
^^ Actually that rule comes from the exact formula above. (ln 2) is about 0.70 and the (ln (1+rate)) tends to the value (rate) when rate is small, so if the rate is in percentage, the (70/rate) rule works perfectly! I guess all finance guys and real-estate agents know such rules. Engineers like me ...

Re: Coronavirus SARS-Cov2 (COVID-19)
Jay, How do you compute the doubling rate? Nothing complicated. The standard doubling period that they all use, which assumes that the same rate will apply every day for t days. Like compound interest. (1+rate) exp t = 2.00, so find the t and it is the doubling period. t ln (1+rate) = ln 2 ... so, ...

Re: Coronavirus SARS-Cov2 (COVID-19)
I suppose inter city travel is much more open now in US than in India. Still I wonder how NY cases continue to drop even as California, Texas and Florida are rising. Are there people not travelling from thoese regions to NY which brings the cases back up there ? It is understandable in India as tra...
