Re: ACC Asia Cup

Natarajan has been very injury prone, which is actually quite amazing for someone who plays only 1 format, that too the shortest one. Regarding Saini, agree that he was decent in his international outings more than 2 years back (none against the strongest teams though), but since then he has had 2 a...

Re: ACC Asia Cup

Agree with most of the selections, however Chahar should have been selected instead of Avesh. Avesh is highly unreliable, and can be a liability in crunch matches. In contrast, Chahar has shown to be fairly consistent, and his batting can be highly useful as well. Also I would prefer Kuldeep over Bi...

Re: Commonwealth Games, 2022

Neetu in women's 48kg boxing weight class was the find of the Games to me; however since her weight class is not an Olympic event, so not sure if she can be a medal hopeful if she moves up. The problem is that Nikhat Zareen, who is our best boxer, is already in that weight class, so maybe both boxer...

Re: Commonwealth Games, 2022

Some of the most disappointing performances came from athletes who were making the most noise before the games - Lovlina and Manika Batra. Looks like they were more distracted by outside stuff rather than focussing on their preparation. I think in future, our sports administration should not put up ...

Also don't see another gold coming from weightlifting. Jeremy is the best hope, but I believe there is a stronger weightlifter from Pakistan in his weight class not sure if he is participating though.

Re: Commonwealth Games, 2022

Wow, Sanjeet got knocked out by a no name boxer from Samoa. This is really shocking!! On top of table tennis team ouster and now Ramit is out as well in squash. Our athletes seem to have regressed significantly since the last games. I don't think we will pass 15 Golds this time.

Re: India in West Indies 2022

Yes, Axar was brilliant while Dhawan and Avesh were pathetic. Every so often, Dhawan produces a "match-losing" innings, where it is clear he should be chucked out forever from the national setup, and then mysteriously he is selected for the next series, and made the captain no less. I don't really k...

Re: ATP Tennis/Non-India Davis Cup

Also with Djokovic likely not being allowed to play in USO, Nadal's chances go up significantly. I think Djokovic has a stranglehold on Wimbledon for a few more years, unless there is a breakthrough by someone new.

Re: India in England, summer of 2021

Contrary to Mr Raj and Prasen's views, I actually think Pant is the best batsman we have in this format as well. Seriously, who would you rate better than him today in the current form? It seems a brilliant move to get him to open, and I hope Rahul's return from injury does not jeopardize our openin...

Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...

I don't know why the federations need to be subjective in an in individual sport. That leaves room for all kinds of bias. The criteria should be laid out well in advance. It's good IMO that folks are going to court over this, will force federations to fix their practices.

Re: South Africa In India 2022

So this is the great fast bowling talent that we unearthed in this IPL that experts were going gaga about: Avesh, Harshal and Umran!! The level of talent is really quite mediocre both in fast bowling and batting, and this was evident during the IPL, where our players were getting outclassed in almos...

Re: India in England, summer of 2021

Current ENG-NZ shows perfectly why you need a strong lower middle order to win in English conditions. You are expected to lose few early wickets because the ball is moving around and the bowlers are fresh. It's up to the lower middle to score the bulk of runs, until the next new ball becomes availab...

Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...

But she seems to have done even better (13.03) 2 years back in a University meet, so it seems that her performance has actually plateaued last couple of years, which is not a good sign. I have lesser concerns about her doping, because she seems to be training in the right places, and not doing somet...

I would have to disagree somewhat. I don't think WCs matter all that much. I would rate All England higher.

Re: South Africa In India 2022

Pant should surely have been rested. By playing him non-stop, we are going to burn him out, just like we did with Pandya, and that short-sightedness has hurt us badly.
