Re: South Africa in India, Sept-Oct 2019

Winning by an innings doesn't give any extra points; taking care of your bowlers is far more important. That said, we have 5 full-time bowlers, and the fast bowlers haven't been really stretched too much, so it should be fine to enforce the follow on.

Re: Indian Boxing Thread

Looking at the performances here, I would seriously doubt a medal, unless we get very lucky with the draws again. Also Manju Rani may get shut out of an opportunity, since medal winners at these championships get automatic entry to the Olympic qualifiers. Same holds true for Shiva Thapa in 63 kg men...

Re: Indian Boxing Thread

Thanks for correcting me. But still I don't believe the Columbian boxer can be counted amongst the top 4-5 boxers in the world. Boxers from PRK, TUR, CHN, VIE (and possibly KAZ and JPN too) are likely ahead of her.

Re: Indian Boxing Thread

Mary has also benefited from a weak draw. Her real test will be next against a Turkish boxer. Jamuna Boro in 54 kg has been quite impressive, she should consider moving up to 57 kg to have a chance at the Olympics

Re: South Africa in India, Sept-Oct 2019

While Australia did prepare batting pitches last time, that was before the WTC. With WTC, everything changes because every game matters. If Australia is still in the hunt for a WTC finals spot, which it will likely be, it will try to maximize it's points from it's home games.

Re: South Africa in India, Sept-Oct 2019

With the start of WTC, I doubt we will be seeing a lot of batting pitches anymore. A draw does not benefit anyone. To be sure, Australia will prepare extremely seam friendly pitches when we tour. Also if we want to make it to the WTC finals, we should be preparing dustbowls against RSA. Infact I don...

Re: Tokyo Olympics 2020 projections

0.32 probability for archery seems a little too high (0.1 is a better estimate); as too does 0.5 for Abhishek Verma and 0.3 for Anjum and Manu. These should be closer to 0.3-0.4 for Abhishek and 0.2 for Anjum-Manu. Apurvi should be a little higher at 0.6 though. Neeraj should not be in the list. Ove...

Re: Indian Volleyball

This stage only decides the order for the knockouts. We will either face Japan or Korea in the QF, we should have a chance against the latter.

Re: Indian Boxing Thread

Negi and Satish also lost; so we end up with only 4 in last 16. Amit, Kavinder and Manish all have easy draws, let's see if they can take advantage. We were always poor in heavier categories, but we need to do something for the middle weight categories. Hopefully Vikas Krishnan can get fit by the ti...

Re: Indian Boxing Thread

Brijesh also lost, while Kavinder had a hard fought win over a Chinese boxer. Amit, Kavinder and Ashish were our best 3, hence would be surprised to see any more qualifiers into round of 16. Was expecting a few more. Disappointed given the pre-tournament hype.

Re: South Africa in India, Sept-Oct 2019

Rohit Sharma (Captain), Mayank Agarwal, Priyank Panchal, AR Easwaran, Karun Nair, Siddhesh Lad, KS Bharat (wicket-keeper), Jalaj Saxena, Dharmendrasinh Jadeja, Avesh Khan, Ishan Porel, Shardul Thakur, Umesh Yadav This is effectively the India second XIV. Not really sure about this; Nadeem is likely...

Re: India in West Indies 2019

I think they got the team selection exactly right for this match. Finally a sign of recognition after the world cup debacle that we need a solid middle order bat, and Iyer seems to be a good fit for that role. Also good to see that Kohli realizes that Rahul is not exactly first XI material. Also tha...

Re: World Cup 2019

I think there's plenty of blame to go around. In such conditions, you expect to lose a few wickets with the new ball. The blame should also be placed on our new ball bowlers, who were not able to make inroads into NZ lineup like the NZ bowlers were able to. Equally is to blame our middle order, Kart...
