Re: Indian Premier League (IPL)

Somehow Ashwin's mojo seems to be back. You can rely on him to not leak runs and he is getting wickets too. I would pick him over Chahal (who seems to be fading now). Also why are we talking about Bhuvi, the guy is out for a long time it looks like. Aren't we talking about Australia series? Even whe...

Re: Indian Premier League (IPL)

Hardik is the best hitter in the country, so he comes in the T20 lineup even if he can't bowl. Last year, he batted at 190+ SR (2nd best, right after Russel) and the main reason why MI won the trophy. This year he doesn't seem to be his usual self, maybe because he still doesn't feel 100% fit after ...

Re: Indian Premier League (IPL)

Very disappointing stuff from Tewatia today. 14 off 18 and that too when the required rate was 8 an over when he got in. Shaw and Axar also disappointed. Samson was kind of ok, but failed to carry his team across the line. Overall, our medium pacers (except for Bumrah) have been really disappointing...

Re: Indian Premier League (IPL)

I would select Mayank over Rahul to partner Rohit at the top.

Re: Indian Premier League (IPL)

Clearly this was Rahul's fault; you would never expect this from Kohli. On this evidence, I would never include him in the Indian team.

Re: 2020 French Open (postponed to 20Sept-4Oct)

I think Nadal's path has been even easier. He has faced no serious challenges till now, and his next opponent (who is his first real test) is already pretty exhausted.

Re: Indian Boxing Thread

Also on the same topic, unlike KAZ and UZB, we seem to have more quantity than quality. I don't think anyone can be counted as a Gold medal prospect. Lovlina is a genuine medal contender, Amit and Krishnan are also medal prospects; but Amit will have to perform much better than how he did here. And ...

Re: Indian Boxing Thread

More than judging bias, I think Jordan's boxers benefited from a weak draw. They successfully avoided boxers from KAZ and UZB. We also seem to have received the same benefit. Except for Gaurav Solanki in 57 kg, our male boxers avoided anyone from KAZ and UZB, and our female boxers avoided anyone fro...

Re: Indian Boxing Thread

Ashish and Satish also through as expected. Amit and Mary Kim should also make it tomorrow. The tricky matches will be Kaushik, Sakshi and Simranjeet. We will be lucky if we can get more than 1 win.

Re: Indian Boxing Thread

Lovlina also through on women's side. Sachin may have been a little unlucky in the 81kg category, because reputations matter a lot in close bouts and he was the unfancied boxer. However he should have a good chance in the box-offs since none of his potential opponents seem particularly strong.

Re: Indian Boxing Thread

Amit got some help from the judges it looks like in a very close bout today. He will have to box much better if he has to win a medal in the Olympics. Solanki lost as expected, so now we have 6 QFs in the men's side, and 5 in the women's side.

Re: Indian Boxing Thread

We had our first loss today in 91kg category. This was probably our weakest category anyway. Most of the QF bouts are going to be pretty even, and we will likely only win around 4 out of 7 on the men's side, and 3 out of 5 on the women's side.

Re: Indian Boxing Thread

It's not QF, it's PQF. So we can say goodbye to our chances in 57 kg

Re: Indian Boxing Thread

Mary will need at least 2 wins (not 1). If she loses in QF, there will be a box-off to decide the qualifiers between losing QFs. Similarly on the men's side, only Satish in 91+ category needs only 1 win; all others need at least 2 (some 3 if they lose the QF bout, since there will potentially be 2 r...

Re: India in New Zealand 2020

Agree with the sentiment on Shastri, but removing Kohli seems really kneejerk. Whom would you replace him with? There's nobody else who commands a guaranteed spot in the lineup. What I think is that it is high time we got rid of Rahane, and also get the nextgen trio of Shaw, Gill and Iyer. Don't hav...
