^^^ I thought you said "well, we have, Jay" to me, and was going to ask "who?" .... Then I saw that there was no comma... You meant, "we have Jay".
So I went searching and found that you meant Jay Kumar of Delhi. But how do you know that he is not a vegetarian?

Yes, for team events, hockey-75, cricket and Kabaddi qualify. I was not even aware of the Polo championship in 1957.

Re: Indians who became World Champions
I was about to say above that I could add a couple of badminton greats like Sethi and Padkone. Maybe Pankaj Advani too.
Okay. That makes my list 17 people. Much better than a list of ONE that I knew and was ashamed about, as a 12 year old in in 1975.

Re: Fide world championship 2024
Should we create a list of world champions in all sports and games? How many has Independent India had? At one time, in the 70s, only billiards was there. Then Hockey 1974 and cricket 1983 happened. Then shooting, chess, badminton, women's boxing, javelin, etc. Not sure if LP/MB's or SatChi #1 ranks...

Re: Fide world championship 2024
But, by your definition, "competitively judged movement of an object or oneself is needed for anything to be a sport., chess is a sport. It involves the movement of an object - chess pieces. And it is competitively judged with very strict rules to say who is a winner. Maybe it is time for you ...

Re: Fide world championship 2024
Jay, why do you think Ding made the blunder? It was physical. His muscles on his body and his brain could not take the stress and slipped up for a moment. I don't care if we call it a sport or not. I do not. But, the physical aspect of chess world championships and long tournaments is overlooked. G...

Re: Women's ITF Series - India/Dec 2024
Sahaja is 1-2 against Yashina with 1 of the losses coming right her at Solapur tournament in 2022, so hopefully it will be sweet revenge for Sahaja tomorrow. Actually Sahaja is 2-1 against Yashina. The two wins were 60 61 and 61 60 in July 2022 and June 2023, but in between she lost at Solapur 36 7...

Congratulations to Gukesh!!! World champion at something (though not a sport) that the world does care for! That happening on what you all say was a Chinese blunder makes it even sweeter.

Re: Women's ITF Series - India/Dec 2024
^^^ Yeah, #250 Strakhova has still not withdrawn from the Navi Mumbai W50, but with Jakupovic out, Shrivalli will be the 8th seed as of now, and can avoid the tougher players for a couple of rounds. Ankita and Sahaja will be the 2nd and 3rd seeds. Fangran who withdrew from last week has just made th...
