Re: Sasi Kumar Mukund thread

By the way, I hadn't noticed that Mukund had played doubles at only 2 challengers this year! I knew that he was hardly playing doubles and focusing on singles (he seems like quite a focused individual by the way), but thought he had played at least a few... But he only played the Asthana (now called...

Re: Sasi Kumar Mukund thread

The ATP year is not quite done for Indians, as Mukund and VSP pulled off a comeback upset just now. After being totally out of sorts in the first set, which wasn't surprising considering the rust in doubles, they had a break at the right time in the second set on their second BP from 30-40 at 5-4. T...

Re: Indians in US College Tennis

Time for an update on Indians in college tennis. The NCAA rankings came out last week. Only one November rankings comes out in fall, when the tennis season gets going with out-of-conference matches between colleges. The rankings after it gets heated up after January are more reliable. Men's rankings...

Re: W25 Gwalior (Nov 11-17) and Bhopal (Nov 18-25)

That is a pretty good win for Mihika. Timofeeva had upset Riya last week in straight sets. Actually 5 Indians in the second round is a decent outcome, considering the tougher entry list. Hope at least three will make the QF, but Riya and Sowjanya run into the 4th and 5th seeds, so we need an upset o...

Terrific comeback win for Riya Bhatia: [R1] Riya Bhatia (IND, 381) d. 8-Valeriya Strakhova (UKR, 366) 16 76(12) 63 22 year old Riya is really showing signs of taking a next step, following up on her first $25K title at Lagos recently. Strakhova is a pretty good player, who had gone inside top-225 i...

Re: W25 Gwalior (Nov 11-17) and Bhopal (Nov 18-25)

Jennifer Luikham is in as a lucky loser, but plays Sowjanya Bavisetti in R1. At least we are assured of one more Indian in R2. Sowjanya justified her wildcard by beating Jennifer 75 63 just now. The other wildcard Sara Yadav didn't do well, as she went down 36 16 to qualifier Mana Kawamura (JPN). R...

Re: Davis Cup 2019 - India

As per report, Aqeel Khan is also going to skip the tie in protest of the ITF decision ... So, who will be in the Pakistan team? Imran Khan. He probably knows some tennis? Or he an pick it up in half an hour and he will still be better than anybody else they can send in to face us. What a fa...

Re: Football: Indian National Team news ...

Yes, Jhingan is being sorely missed. He will be out for an extended period with surgery etc, so we have to make do. Anas is good with Jhingan, but he is no superman. But our passing and attacking have really regressed under the "set-piece guru" Stimac, based on the bits and pieces I have seen of the...

Re: Football: Indian National Team news ...

Yes, they had 3000 seats for OMR 5 ($13) and 300 VIP seats at OMR 10 ($25) for Indians - with specific gates for entry etc. The rest of the seats are only for home guys and were free! I have never heard of ticket prices being set only for expat people at international games. So indecent! Anyway, Oma...

Re: Football: Indian National Team news ...

India vs OIman is on in Muscat. Can't find any live stream, as usual. Why is it so hard to watch any Indian football outside India?

Anyway, 0-0 in the 22nd minute. Oman actually got a penalty kick early, but their guy kicked it to the crossbar!

30:00 -- Still 0-0

Re: Sasi Kumar Mukund thread

Yeah, this loss may have more to do with jetlag than anything else! Maybe he is planning to do winter conditioning in Europe? If so, it is not a wasted trip. He is still with coach Martin Spoettl in Vienna, right?

Re: W25 Gwalior (Nov 11-17) and Bhopal (Nov 18-25)

As expected, no Indian qualified in, at Bhopal :( ... Unfortunate that Jennifer came up against the top seed, and could only come close to beating her. (11) Jennifer LUIKHAM (IND) l. (1) Karin KENNEL (SUI) , 26 64 [8-10] Shrivalli Rashmikaa BHAMIDIPATY (IND) l. (12) Punnin KOVAPITUKTED (THA), 16 64 ...

Re: Sasi Kumar Mukund thread

At the €46,600+H Maia Challenger , Portugal (Red clay) [R1] Sasi Kumar Mukund (IND,261) vs Daniel Masur (GER,257) The match must be on Tuesday. If Mukund wins, he will run into the second seed Tomas Fabbiano (ITA,116). This event is on clay, so I have no idea what form Mukund will show, and if it wo...

Re: $54(+H) Pune Challenger, November 11-18,2019

That's exactly what I was thinking too. Hit the felt off the ball in practice and make the shots and the serve more accurate. You cant hit the net or go over the line as often as he does, when his shot selection is so good. Some of the running retrieval shots and service returns he hits are gems. Hi...
