Re: Football: Indian National Team news ...

I don't think it is so bad, Rajit. After all, the goal-less draw against Qatar in the last match was one of our best games in recent memory - though we got lucky too. But we haven't had a good win under Stimac just yet (but have had 2 or 3 bad losses). Stimac seems to experiment too much with the pl...

Re: Football: Indian National Team news ...

89th minute goal from Adil Khan gave us a draw at least. But this hurts. Badly. We needed every point against Bangladesh and Afghanistan. If we play like this, no chance.

Re: East Asian Challengers, 2019

Prajnesh was in pretty good form today. His opponent was no sliced cheese either. Pretty talented 21 year old Australian. But Gunner wouldn't let him do anything much today, hitting with power and variation, and serving at a high level (6 aces and many service winners). One break each in either set ...

Re: Football: Indian National Team news ...

I read that the match is nearly a sellout already! Whoa. That means some 75K+ could be at the game (the VYBK capacity is much less than the 120K+ that it once was, after the re-arranging for the FIFA17 final). When was the last time the national team played in front of that kind of a crowd?? Thank y...

Re: Football: Indian National Team news ...

India versus Bangladesh in the World Cup qualifier match this evening in Kolkata. At the mecca of Indian football, Salt Lake Stadium (Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan). Hard to believe that India has not played in Kolkata for about 8 years now. Tickets are selling well, it seems. Big blow for our ...

Re: $25K Nigeria Men/Women - October 2019

Saha Nadimana, the player from Burundi who lost to Mahak two finals in a row in Nairobi is the winner of the $25K Lagos week 1 tournament. What is Mahak up to, these days? Apparently taking a break and probably doing the 12th standard studies. Here is the latest article on her, which is from late A...

Re: Indian Economy

Not the right thread to report this... Anyway, Abhijit Banerjee, born in Kolkata and currently a professor at MIT, just got the Nobel prize in economics with Esther Duflo (also a professor at MIT, who was Banerjee's PhD student and is his current, 2nd, wife, as per his wiki page) and Prof. Michael K...

Re: General Tennis Discussions

Yep, it is going to be an interesting time. I am reminded of the time when people were asking, "after Agassi and Sampras, who?"... There was even talk of tennis and ATP dying a slow death, etc. Haha. Not sure if this crowd can keep it going as long as Federer, Nadal and Djokovic did, but it will cer...

Re: Indian domestic cricket/ players

So, what the hell is going on with this Sanju Samson fellow? Why are the Malayalam newspapers making such a big deal of him suddenly? Double century or whatever... I don't follow cricket that often, so I wondered if I should pay attention to this Malayali dude. Is he any good?

A very good article on Stephen Constantine and how things never seems to click for him, despite his having shown great success wherever he has gone. 'Maybe I'm not a big enough name today, I don't know. I do feel my record is deserving of a chance'.. ( Daily Mail, UK ) "The the most successful Engli...

I thought Frost had signed up with the Padukone Academy a few months ago, for a one-year coaching stint. Lakshya Sen may have been a big reason for that too. This is great for Lakshya.

Re: Pakistan, Kashmir, etc...

An update on the Kashmir situation. The latest today, is from a 4-member group that released a report based on their visit in late sepetember to Kashmir. As an "activist" group, they can naturally be expected to blame our Government in the "opinions". But the situation they report appears to make se...

Re: Chinese bullying of corporate America

Prasen, you are talking about what went on under all the previous governments (and not just this), with army deployment in a state where the state government was not fully under the Indian constitution and Indian system. I have written in the past about how I was against all of that, and how it was ...
