Re: Billie Jean King Cup (previously Fed Cup) - India

What an absolutely stand-out performance by Shrivalli Bhamidipaty. Pulling off 5 wins in 5 matches was absolutely outstanding, most of the wins being over higher ranked players. I hope that inspires her to repeat it on the WTA circuit as well. Being tall, Shrivalli has some advantages that most ...

Re: Indian Premier League (IPL)

The on-again, off-again Prasid Krishna is having a banner season, leading the wicket-taking column with 16 wickets -- well ahead of everyone else.

Re: Indian Premier League (IPL)

I must admit I haven't watched a single IPL match on TV from start to finish this year. Only occasionally watched even replays. But noticeably, the bowlers have done a lot better after the first week or so, in which the batsmen were totally dominant. KKR has been complaining about pitches at the ...

[Q1] (13) Riya Bhatia (IND,623) l. Alexandra Osborne (AUS,1297), 46 57
Must have been pretty jetlagged after flying to Virginia (not the most connected state) from playing the doubles final in France.

Re: Riya Bhatia thread

Riya also made the final of the doubles last week at the W75 in Calvi (France), partnering Burundi's Sada Nahimana (ranked 273 in doubles, 252 in singles), and that took Riya to a career-high doubles ranking of 270 this week.

Not a good week for our doubles players in Portugal last week.

Gwangju Challenger this week:

[R1] Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND, 139)/Aoran Wang (CHN, 188) vs. Antoine Escoffier (FRA, 351; 218s)/Luca Sanchez (FRA, 178)

Pretty evenly matched, but our pair should be slightly favoured, I think.

Re: Indian Super League

Yes, but it is no longer that old Mohun Bagan either. The club has remade itself for a slightly more professional era. It hardly has any home players any more, and is hardly recognizable as the original Mohun Bagan.

Madrid Masters (ATP1000), clay

[Q1] W- Manas Dhamne (IND, 760) l. 15-Luca Nardi (ITA, 100) 46 46

Decent performance by Manas against a player ranked 100 at the moment, who knows how to play on clay. I watched part of the game where Manas was trying to consolidate his only break of serve. It was ...

Re: Manas Dhamne thread

I think it's premature for Manas to be playing Masters qualifiers (he should be playing Challengers qualifiers first :-) ). But, given all the hard yards he's put in playing M25 qualifiers, perhaps he'll do well against Nardi with no pressure (and no exhaustion from having played a slew of matches ...

Re: Manas Dhamne thread

I would love to see one of our players in Jr GSs again. So long since we had people who actually won them.

I think LP is the last one to win a junior grand slam singles title. But that was back some 34 years ago. I just want to see somebody threatening to make the QF or SF. Even that has not ...

Ever since touching 100 (ie, just about making it to top-100) in the rankings, Nishesh has gone rather quiet on tour. Hope he pulls out of this mini-slump.

Re: Indian Premier League (IPL)

Delhi Capitals stay unbeaten after 4 games. Quite extraordinary to see one of the bottom teams of last year so strong under new leadership this year. Axar is doing well as captain, and KL Rahul is performing a lot better without the burdens of captaincy. Their bowling hasn't really been tested ...
