Re: BWF Thomas & Uber Cup Finals

What an absolutely stunning achievement :notworthy: :notworthy:  . The farthest we had ever reached in the Thomas Cup was the semifinal in 1979, when Prakash was approaching his prime and a young Syed Modi was emerging. But then we lost the doubles in most rounds (with Prakash usually teaming...

Re: French Open 2022

Yes, every match in a Slam qualifier is going to be a tough battle. But all three are capable of pulling off a surprise, so all the best to all 3 of our warriors! Let's get to Q2, then move forward one step at a time...

Re: ATP/ITF/WTA tournament calendar updates

Fantastic news! Sadly, though, Ankita Raina and Karman Kaur Thandi (the top 2 Indian players who could be potential beneficiaries of this) are ranked too low to benefit fully. Maybe a wildcard for singles will fire up Ankita to do something special in front of a partisan home crowd, or even Karman o...

Re: Sania Mirza Comeback - 2020-22

That is the fourth semifinal of the year for Mirza/Hradecka. They made the final in Charleston, and made SFs in Qatar, Dubai and now Rome (Italian Open). Very impressive run for Sania, and she is now in the top-30 in the individual doubles rankings, and sure to be seeded at the FO and Wimbledon (and...

Re: Yuki Bhambri

Yuki is still going into the FO qualifiers without a singles match on clay this year. This is simply atrocious. He had several opportunities to play Challenger qualifiers on clay, but skipped every chance of doing so. He could easily have played at least 3 Futures main draws in India, but didn't. Th...

Re: French Open 2022

Bad decision by Rohan not to partner with Ramkumar, with whom he has won 2 ATP tour titles this year. He has had relatively little success on tour with Middlekoop. The only other successful pairing he has had is with Shapovalov, who is probably choosing to focus on singles after his triumph over Raf...

Re: ATP Tennis/Non-India Davis Cup

Carlos Alcaraz-Garfia beats Rafa on the clay at Madrid (in the QF -- too early in the draw for them to meet!!) to set up a semifinal clash against the world #1 Novak Djokovic. They are really making him earn that title...

Re: Indian Premier League (IPL)

Wriddhiman Saha proving to be GT's secret weapon as opening batsman in T20s. Could he be on the flight to Australia in October? He has competition to be Pant's #2 from Sanju Samson in particular, but more distantly also DK.

Re: Indian domestic cricket/ players

Pujara's scores in county cricket this year for Sussex: 6 & 201* (saved the match); 109 & 12 (as his side lost); 203 (big first innings lead as a result, but bowlers couldn't take 20 wickets); 16 (ongoing match). Still averaging 109.4 despite the latest failure.

After a great day for us yesterday, double heartbreak today:

French Open 2022

The French Open main draw begins on 22nd May, but the qualifying begins on Monday 16th May. We should have Ramkumar Ramanathan, Sumit Nagal, Yuki Bhambri (with his protected ranking) and Prajnesh Gunneswaran competing in the singles qualifiers this year. Ankita appears unlikely to be able to play th...

Re: Saketh Myneni Thread

Saketh has definitely revived his doubles career in the past half year, with 2 Challenger doubles titles -- at Bangalore 1 with Ramkumar, and Salinas (Ecuador) with Yuki -- and four Futures doubles titles (3 with Yuki, 1 with Vishnu). Consequently, his doubles ranking has jumped back up to 180. He h...

Re: European Challengers 2022

Interestingly, Ramkumar has won 2 ATP tour titles this year (with RB) -- in Adelaide and Pune -- but has only won 1 Challenger doubles title in 2022 (with Saketh, Bangalore 1). He also lost 2 Challenger doubles finals this year (at Bangalore 2 with Saketh, and Biel with Purav).

Re: European Challengers 2022

What a fabulous day for Ramkumar. He also has a winning record against his next opponent, #70 Benjamin Bonzi. They played 6 years ago in the Todi Challenger (on clay!) and Ramkumar won 64 61! But the odds-makers have Bonzi as the favourite to win. Let's prove them wrong, RamK! I think Ramkumar-Yuki ...

Re: Santosh Trophy

By the way, I just realized that the place "Santosh," after whose Maharaja the trophy was named, is no longer in India!!! ... I thought it was somewhere in West Bengal, but it is apparently in Bangladesh. If you search for Santosh on Wikipedia, the only thing that shows up is that it was the birthp...
