Re: Hockey at Commonwealth Games, Birmingham, July 28- August 8, 2022

0-7 is a horrible thrashing. I am surprised that congratulations are nonetheless pouring in for the silver in men's hockey. Frankly, not getting to the final here would have been an absolute disgrace. We finished equal with England in our pool, but scraped to the top ranking on the basis of a better...

Re: European Challengers 2022

There is little doubt that Sumit's comeback is back on track. He wanted to be sure of that himself before using his PR for a Challenger. And this week, he's done that in both singles and doubles. Nice singles win to start that week.

Re: Yuki Bhambri

Yuki's visa situation was quite complicated. He needed to renew his Schengen visa before the Davis Cup fixture in Norway, and also sort out his US visa situation (which has a few extra wrinkles). He has now got the Schengen, and a workable solution to the US visa conundrum. Anyway, he is thriving in...

Re: Indian Women's Cricket

Terrific victory for the Indian women over England in the semifinals of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Mandhana played a brilliant innings (reaching 50 off 23 balls) and India won by 4 runs (Sneha Rana successfully defending 14 runs in the final over). Congratulations to the Indian women's te...

Re: US Hard court Challengers 2022

Fourth Challenger doubles title of 2022 for Yuki-Saketh. They won in Salinas (Ecuador), Prostejov (Czechia), Porto (Portugal) and now Lexington, KY (USA). Prior to that they won 4 Futures titles (3 of them in 2022). A really good run as a pair. If they can win next week's title in Chicago, they shou...

Re: Sumit Nagal thread

Nice to see Sumit gradually regaining his mojo. Coming back from a long injury lay-off is never easy. Our players have to do it multiple times in their careers :-( (the exception being RamK).

Re: India in Zimbabwe 2022

This looks like a pretty good selection to me. Rahul Tripathi has earned his stripes via the IPL -- consistency over several years. Rajat Patidar (after his Ranji final century, and excellent clutch performances in the IPL this year) should have been picked.

Re: US Hard court Challengers 2022

Yuki still has severe pain in his knees and elsewhere. He doesn't speak about all this much, but this is the reason he withdrew from singles after winning a couple of good matches (FQR against 2014 USO junior champ and R1 against 2009 Wimbledon junior champ) in the last Challenger singles he played....

6 Indians in the QF in Sri Lanka this week -- only one Indian seed (Nitin Sinha) lost, to compatriot Rishi Reddy. Manish plays Rishi, Digvijay plays Adil, Siddharth Vishwakarma plays 2-Vanshelboim, and 5-Prajwal Dev plays Thailand's Kovapitukted in the QF. Manish is also in the doubles SF.

Re: Highest rankings of all the former Indian players please????

Slight change in the top of the pecking order, after ATP properly counted Sashi Menon's 1975 performances, and showed his career-high as being 71 (not 87 as we previously thought): Ramanathan Krishnan - 6 Vijay Amritraj - 16 Ramesh Krishnan - 23 Somdev Devvarman - 62 Sashi Menon - 71 Leander Paes- 7...

Re: Sashi Menon thread

The ATP site now shows Sashi Menon's career-high ranking being 71 in October 1975. It shows him making the last-32 of the Australian Open in December 1974. Then he made the QF of the ATP Chicago (losing to #11 Roscoe Tanner, after beating #40 Charlie Pasarell in R1 and a Robert Kreiss in the last-16...
