Re: Sumit Nagal thread

Could he have been handed a wildcard from either of the places :) ?

Re: ITF Junior circuit 2023 India

Vihaan Reddy was already 802 in the junior rankings at the start of this week. So the additional 30 points from this week's title will take him to around 630 in the rankings. Very impressive for a 13 year old.

Re: Indian Volleyball

Where is this place Calicut? It is Kozhikode, people! :) I have thought about this and don't have a clear answer. These are the two sides. On the one hand, should a language be able to name places differently? Or should we always try to be as close to the native pronunciation as possible? Every lan...

Re: ITF Junior circuit 2023 India

Aman Dahiya, now 18, who reached 62 in the junior rankings in Jan'22, seems to have faded now. Not playing juniors or pro events. Sad!

Re: ITF Junior circuit 2023 India

So 3 consecutive J30 singles titles for 13 year old Vihaan Reddy. Very impressive! The highest ranked player in the field was Pratyaksh XXX (weird 'surname'), ranked 741, and second seed was Smit Patel, ranked 877. Both lost in the QF. So, J30 is the equivalent of a Grade 5 junior event from the pre...

Yuvan Nandal thread

17 year old Yuvan Nandal earns his own thread by virtue of winning a tough J300 (J1 or junior Grade 1 by the old nomenclature) abroad. At the Sarawak Cup in Malaysia, Yuvan defeated the 2nd seed Charlie Camus (AUS, 51j; CH 35j) in the QF, another Australian Pavle Marinkov (82j) in the SF (62 62) and...

Re: Junior Circuits Abroad for Indian Kids...

What is surprising -- and a bit disappointing -- is that Yuvan Nandal, Aryan Shah et al don't play any pro tournaments. At 17, they should be doing that, preparing the transition to the pro circuit, by at least playing the home M15s and M25s. The level of competition is perforce more intense than in...

Re: Indian tennis player rankings

The list of Indians in the top-450 of singles is depressingly short: 1. Sumit Nagal #371 2. Sasikumar Mukund #387 3. Ramkumar Ramanathan #413 4. Prajnesh Gunneswaran #438 5. Digvijay Pratap Singh #594 6. Niki Kalyandi Poonacha #676 7. Sidharth Rawat #730 8. Manish Sureshkumar #761 9. SD Prajwal Dev ...

Re: European Challengers 2023

Great to see an all-Indian doubles final at a Challenger in Spain! The Wimbledon doubles champion was in the doubles draw but lost early (although, as top seed in singles, he is still alive in the singles SF). The two Indian pairs were seeded 3rd and 4th, so by definition they've done better than th...

Re: ITF M25/M15 India- March/April 2023

These Futures (M25s) have at least thrown one young singles player, Karan Singh, and of course highlighted a couple more doubles pairs. But Mukund and Karan are the major winners (if only Mukund hadn't lost in R1 last week). So they have served a useful purpose. I agree with Jay that Zeeshan is prob...

Re: ITF M25/M15 India- March/April 2023

Good job by Manish-Parikshit in making their second consecutive M25 doubles final -- beating SDPD-SaiPrateek. In the QF, they had also avenged their loss in last week's final to Alcantara-Isarow (the ASEAN, Phils/Thai, pair that won the title in Delhi). They play Ellis-Sekiguchi (who beat the other ...

Re: European Challengers 2023

There could be an all-Indian final in the doubles final at the Spain Challenger.
Good to see Ramkumar/Balaji making the semifinal in Biel as well.

Re: ITF M25/M15 India- March/April 2023

Thanks for your thoughts, Prof. From what I observed while watching last week's SFs, Donskoy's stroke-making (power and accuracy of ground strokes) was a clear notch or two above the other 3 semifinalists, so I wasn't at all surprised that he won. Karan is a tall lad (who I spoke to briefly), but if...

Re: ITF M25/M15 India- March/April 2023

One Indian through to the singles SF, the other two lose tough matches in the QF: [QF] 5- Sasikumar Mukund (IND, 401; CH 229) d. 2-Oliver Crawford (USA, 290; CH 284) 76(3) 62 [QF] Q- Karan Singh (IND, 915) l. 3-Evgeny Donskoy (RUS, 302; CH 65) 57 26 [QF] WC- Siddharth Vishwakarma (IND, 1002) l. 1-Ly...
