Re: ITF M25 Series, India Nov 2024
Aryan Shah is ranked 624 (CH 621) at age 18, which is very decent. These M25s are a big opportunity for him to aim for the top-500. Next up, though, is a key test in the form of Sid Rawat, who has a career high of 430.

Re: U.S. Politics
There is a mini-industry of conspiracy theories about what happened to the INA's gold. The mystery has never been completely resolved. Subhas Bose did not take much gold on his journey to Taipei from Saigon, leaving the gold in the charge of his cabinet -- or a specific cabinet member -- in Bangkok....

Re: U.S. Politics
Actually, being backed by gold was the norm until 1970. It was the era of fixed currencies, with each one linked to a specific weight of gold (although the system had broken down in much of the world after 1930). All currencies were fixed against the US$ after 1945 in the Bretton Woods system, with ...

:Offtopic: Continuing the above discussion, Robert and Maggie Amritraj gave all 3 of their sons Hindu names -- Anand (bliss), Vijay (victory/victorious), Ashok (happy -- i.e., never sad). But their Christian links proved helpful when Vijay and Anand started playing in the US, and were virtually adop...

Re: ITF M25 Series, India Nov 2024
I don't think we can argue that any Indian player is over-ranked at the moment, since there haven't been too many tournaments in India over the past 6 months. They have mostly earned their rankings the hard way -- overseas -- albeit occasionally in "easier" locales, eg, Africa.

Re: Virat Kohli thread
Success inevitably goes to players' heads. Very few can keep their heads and stay humble amid all the success and adulation (clearly Tendulkar and Gavaskar could, and Dravid -- but he never had that kind of adulation). I remember seeing Azharuddin with the Indian team at the Bombay Gymkhana Club dur...

Re: New Zealand in India, 2024
I have not used the term all-rounder to mean bowlers who can bat or batters who can bowl. Using these loose definitions, we can find a lot more including Agarkar, Srinath, and Zahir as Mr. Raj has suggested. However, I wanted to see people who could genuinely bat and bowl at a certain level. I wasn...
