Re: ACC Asia Cup
Anyway since this is an Asia Cup thread I hope this was the last ever Asia Cup and we don't have to play these proxy bilateral series vs Pakistan. The earlier this tournament is banned and blacklisted the better it is for cricket.
How is this a proxy bilateral series? Sri Lanka has performed ...

Re: US OPEN 2025
Wish we had this level of success in singles. Oh well, one can only dream.
To be fair, until the 1970s (and many years in the 1980s), we did often have 3-4 singles players in many Slam draws. In 1973, there were 7 Indians in the singles main draw -- Vijay Amritraj (QF), Jaidip Mukerjea (last-16 ...

Re: South Africa in India, Nov-Dec 2025
Jadeja has given away 11 runs in 7 overs, and that has kept the pressure on the South African batsmen. Siraj beautifully capitalised from the other end with a couple of wickets in that over. The one that got Jansen was an absolute peach.

Two quick wickets in one over from a Siraj who is now on fire!

Re: Los Angeles Olympics 2028
If PKB doesn't believe Neeraj Chopra would win a medal we are in serious trouble. Also we should win something in compound archery. I am not so optimistic about women's cricket given their tendency to choke.
I was not giving an exhaustive list of medals. Neeraj Chopra will almost certainly win ...

Re: South Africa in India, Nov-Dec 2025
Beautiful bowling from Bumrah this morning, after a wayward first over. Siraj has been off-colour, Kuldeep has bowled a couple of beauties, and Jadeja has been penetrative without luck so far.

Still 10 days to go, but good to see that Sumit's visa problem was resolved.

Re: South Africa in India, Nov-Dec 2025
India have gone into the Eden Gardens test with FOUR spinners!! I don't understand the logic of this. At the Eden Gardens, it is always good to have an extra pacer to take advantage of the swing in the afternoon.
But South Africa are without Rabada, who has a rib injury. And strangely, despite the ...

Re: ATP/ITF/WTA tournament calendar updates
I like this scheduling change. Going back to the tradition that lasted until the 1970s of an India circuit preceding the Australian Open (and its predecessor), which brought the world's tennis elites to play in India -- on the way to Australia. I think we should consider having one Challenger ...

Re: Womens World Cup
If we had Pratika Rawal in the XI, and Richa batting one or two slots higher, we would probably have made 320, and would have another good bowler. Shafali was a bit of a gamble (in Pratika's absence), but that gamble paid off handsomely -- especially with the ball, but also with the bat. Shafali had ...

Re: Womens World Cup
India thrashed England in the first match. And India were completely in control of the final until the last 3-4 overs (when a young team panicked, partly because the captain/management made a very poor decision with the batting order -- a la Venkat at the Oval in 1979, when he sent Kapil up the ...

Re: Womens World Cup
So, before the Deepti wickets but after the Shafali wickets, you were reasonably sure India would pull it out? Yes, Shafali scored much faster and that was vital. But, if we are looking at that, then Deepti took three wickets out more than Shafali and with about 5 overs left and if you give back ...

Re: Womens World Cup
When future generations look back at the scorecard, they will think that it was an easy, consummate victory. But those who watched it live -- in the stadium, or (like me) on TV -- would know that it was a pulsating match, the outcome of which wasn't certain until Wolvaardt was caught on the boundary ...

Re: Womens World Cup
Physical fitness was on vivid display by the ladies today. They clearly recognized its importance, worked on it, showed it, and reaped the dividends.
I’d no doubt about POTM and POTS. I’d called the same in my chat groups. I was the only one though. I think both were awarded correctly. Perhaps if ...
