Re: Men's FIH Hockey Junior World Cups

Sloppy defending inside the D resulted in a totally unnecessary penalty stroke against India. And 0-2 also happened somewhat against the run of play. But India were still down 0-2 before the final 15 minutes -- during which relentless attacking by India resulted in 4 goals.

Re: Men's FIH Hockey Junior World Cups

Terrific come-from-behind victory over Argentina to secure the bronze. India were trailing 0-2 going into the final quarter, but shot as many as four goals in the final 15 minutes to win 4-2! Amazing stuff. Argentina withdrew their goalkeeper after going down 2-3, but India scored yet again. Truly a ...

Re: South Africa in India, Nov-Dec 2025

We lost the toss, but still hammered South Africa in the first T20I. This was a right royal thrashing by 101 runs. All the bowlers did well -- presumably because they are used to dew (you have to be in the IPL, I presume).

Re: Men's FIH Hockey Junior World Cups

Yes, the 1-5 thrashing was a worrying outcome, especially at home. In fact, the 2-2 draw during normal time with Belgium was pretty worrying too. Our pipeline is thinning, it would appear.

Re: South Africa in India, Nov-Dec 2025

Very strange that 'Samson's average being lower than Yashasvi's is a small sample size and will not stand any general statistical significance test' -- and yet in the previous sentence you assert that 'Yashasvi's innings have been very slow' (based on the same sample size)!! How convenient -- and ...

Re: South Africa in India, Nov-Dec 2025

Samson's problem is that his ODI numbers look a lot better than his T20I numbers. So blindly following the numbers is meaningless. In ODIs, 5 of Sansom's 16 matches have been against the West Indies and Zimbabwe, and the first few were against SL -- so the numbers need to be observed/analysed with ...

Re: Digvijay Pratap Singh thread

Excellent run by 25 year old Digvijay over the past 3 weeks, although it hasn't yet taken him back to his career high ranking of 485 from 2.5 years ago. He is back on the right track, though, which is good to see.

Re: ITF M15,M25- Bhubaneswar, Bhopal,Gwalior- Nov/Dec 2025

Excellent comeback over the last 3 weeks by Digvijay Pratap Singh. He had almost given up tennis during his injury layoff (and even taken to Padel or Pickleball), but it's good to see him well and truly back as a tennis pro. At 25, he isn't too old to mount a serious pro career from this point on.

Re: South Africa in India, Nov-Dec 2025

Excellent end to the ODI series, with a comprehensive 9-wicket victory, after we finally won a toss and put SA in to bat. Superb bowling by Kuldeep Yadav in non-dew conditions. Prasidh Krishna was expensive but picked up crucial wickets.

It was good to see Yashaswi Jaiswal construct his innings ...

Re: Manas Dhamne thread

A proper challenge coming up next:

[SF] 1-Robin Bertrand (FRA, 305; CH 206) vs. 4-Manas Dhamne (IND, 622)

When they played each other four months ago, Manas lost 67(6) 23 retd. Manas is better-rested this time, so I am hopeful he will avenge that loss.

The doubles final is between the top two seeds, 1-Ishaque Eqbal/Grigoriy Lomakin and 2-Aryan Shah/Atharva Sharma. In fact, the top 4 seeded pairs made the semifinal too.

Re: Manas Dhamne thread

Yes, a tough opponent on his home court, but this is the sort of match Manas should comfortably win at this stage. I expect him to storm to the singles trophy this week.

Re: ITF M15,M25- Bhubaneswar, Bhopal,Gwalior- Nov/Dec 2025

Interesting that there are no seeds left in the bottom half of the draw (after two Indian seeds, Sid Rawat and Manish Sureshkumar, lost early). Big opportunity for those four remaining Indians in that half of the draw.
