Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread

Excellent, and comfortable, win over Kozlov. RamK is at 140 in the live rankings. Qualifying in will get him closer to his career high.

He plays #109 Bjorn Fratangelo in the final round of qualifiers.

Re: $50K(+H) Chennai Challenger, 12-18 Feb. 2018

Sad that Yuki narrowly failed to win this match against a similarly (but marginally higher) ranked player — just as he lost to Herbert at the ATP Maharashtra Open. These are matches he simply has to win in order to move up. He is slowly getting there, but ever so slowly. The first serve will have to...

Re: India in South Africa, January 2018

Kohli has been breathtakingly brilliant right through this South Africa tour, but was impeccable in the ODIs. He was dismissed just once by bowlers before making a century (when he made 75).

Re: ATP Tennis/Non-India Davis Cup

Federer back as world #1 in the live rankings. He had a hiccup against Haase, dropping the first set tiebreaker, but then romped through 61 61.
What an amazing story his comeback has been over the past 13 months!!

Re: $50K(+H) Chennai Challenger, 12-18 Feb. 2018

Vishnu and Balaji are actually at career high rankings of 102 and 115 respectively in the live rankings. It has indeed been a valuable Challenger for them and Yuki (even more so if Yuki duly wins the final tomorrow).

But it would have been even better if the India numbers 3, 4 and 5 had got past R1.

Does this guarantee a French Open direct entry?
If he can maintain this ranking, yes. But he has some points to defend in the next few weeks.

Nicely done to take the first set. Let’s hope he can finish it off in straight sets!

Re: India in South Africa, January 2018

Manoj Tiwary would have fitted the criteria for most of his career, and would bring the added advantage of being a good sixth bowler (who can take wickets but might be expensive). Excellent fielder too. But he is past his best now, and no longer warrants consideration.

Re: $50K(+H) Chennai Challenger, 12-18 Feb. 2018

VIshnu/Balaji are in the doubles semifinal (after a good straight sets win over Coppejans/Bega), and Saketh joins them there after a 13-11 STB victory (in partnership with Margaroli) over Altuna/Safwat. The other two Indian pairs lost in the QF.

Re: $50K(+H) Chennai Challenger, 12-18 Feb. 2018

Really disastrous home Challenger for us. Sad indeed that just one Indian has made the QF, when 3 were seeded to do so.
