Re: Sahaja Yamalapalli thread

With another QF in Tunisia (to be played later today), Sahaja is at a new career high of 393. Congrats on breaking into the top-400 in short order!

Re: TennisIndia Daily updates (has restarted YET AGAIN!)

It's Friday, and we have 4 Indian women alive in pro tournaments around the world -- two of them at their career-high rankings. Indian women's tennis is on the march! Vaidehi Chaudhuri is in the SF (singles and doubles) at Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. She is at her career high singles ranking of 4...

Re: Vaidehi Chaudhari thread

At Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand:

[QF] 4-Vaidehi Chaudhuri (IND, 491) d. 6-Lu Jialing (CHN, 536; CH 162) 60 64

A bagel delivered to a Chinese player is always extra sweet! Vaidehi now at a new career high of 432.

Vaidehi (partnering Shrivalli Bhamidapaty) is in the doubles SF there as well.

Thailand Futures

Vaidehi-Shrivalli are through to the doubles SF there. So is Banthia in men's doubles (after getting a walkover in the QF).

Re: World Test Championship final 2021-23 (The Oval)

I agree that it was egregiously unfair to have picked Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of Abhimanyu Eashwaran for the WTC squad (reserves). Easwaran made centuries in both India A matches before the Bangladesh test series -- and those were explicitly supposed to be selection trials. He was kept in the squad, t...

Re: Roland Garros 2023

So a pretty poor FO for us, with a Q2 in women's singles and R2 (and counting) in men's doubles the extent of the slim pickings in the pro events. We still do have a few juniors who will be popping up next week. This was sad: 6- Bopanna /Ebden l. Sadio Doumbia/Fabien Reboul (FRA/FRA) 57 67(5) Ram/Sa...

Re: Roland Garros 2023

Bopanna/Ebden have a pretty easy first couple of rounds against French pairs. They are guaranteed to play a wildcard pair in the second round. Yuki/Saketh get a French wildcard in the first round, but could play the 9th seeds in R2. Here are their early-round draws: 6-Bopanna/Ebden vs. Sadio Doumbia...

Re: Roland Garros 2023

Good draw for Ankita. She is drawn to play a Japanese ranked 141 in Q2, and potentially 3rd seeded Arantxa Rus, who she comfortably beat in the Singapore final on 20th Jan 2019 (I was there in the second set, but she won the first set comfortably without the help of my vocal chords :) ), in the FQR.

I hope someone from the big Indian contingent gets at least to the SF in singles this week in Addis Ababa.

Re: Yuki Bhambri/ Saketh Myneni (pair) Thread

Excellent win over the former world #1 pair -- who were Wimbledon and US Open champions in 2019 (and also semifinalists at that year's FO, and again in 2020 and 2021). Even last year, Cabal/Farah made the SF at both Wimbledon and the US Open. Their rankings are lower because they got no points at Wi...

Re: ATP Korea Challengers- April, May 2023

Yes, I know that, but if he had been ranked around 10th in the world after winning Wimbledon (as he would have been, given that his doubles ranking was 25 in April 2022), he would have played many more top-level doubles events (including Masters) simply because he would have made far more money doin...
