Re: Yuki Bhambri

:Offtopic: I was totally wrong about Covid-19 five weeks ago (when India began its national lockdown). I still think it was a mistake to have a complete national lockdown (agriculture should have been allowed to function normally, albeit with some social distancing protocols). Where I was wrong was ...

Re: ATP tour suspended until July; Wimbledon cancelled

This is getting depressing. Wimbledon and the entire grass season have been cancelled! There is a player revolt against the French Open’s unilateral decision to postpone until late-September. Most likely the FO too will be obliged to cancel that announcement. :damn: (I’m half-hoping it’s an April Fo...

Re: Leander Paes thread...

I presume he is hoping to get a wildcard to the Olympics. Maybe Bopanna-Paes, given their success in Croatia. But if course we can decide at this time next year...

Re: Yuki Bhambri

:Offtopic: I think the world is over-reacting, believe it or not. Social distancing is needed to contain its exponential spread (Italy, Case 31 in South Korea, Iran were the triggers for legitimate fear). Once the latest global lockdown ends by mid-April, I think most countries would have contained ...

Re: Yuki Bhambri

With the clay season cancelled, Yuki should be in fine fettle to return to the circuit at the start of the grass season. I've seen a few videos (starting from the second week of February) showing Yuki actually practicing his tennis strokes, serve, etc.

Re: 2020 French Open (postponed to 20Sept-4Oct)

Yes, Sumit is the main sufferer among the Indians. This year's clay season was likely to have been highly productive for him.

2020 French Open (postponed to 20Sept-4Oct)

Effectively, the entire clay court season is going to be cancelled. The French Open, scheduled to start in the third week of May, is being postponed by 4 months -- to start instead on 20th September, soon after the US Open. Here is the story from the French Open organizers: https://www.rolandgarros....

Re: Davis Cup 2020- India

This is an eminently winnable tie, even if it is in Finland. As long as we have a couple of fit singles players, we should beat Finland quite comfortably. Ruusuvuori did beat Ramkumar in a 3-setter (RamK winning the first set) in the Canberra Challenger this year. But I don't think he will be able t...

Re: ATP tour suspended for 6 weeks (until 20 April 2020)

The ATP is cancelling the Challengers currently being played. Very unfair to the players who are still alive there.

I wonder whether the ITF will do the same for tournaments being played this week, including the first Futures tournament in India for more than a year...

ATP tour suspended for 6 weeks (until 20 April 2020)

The ATP tour has announced an immediate suspension of the ATP tour. This means that the Nur-Sultan and Potchefstroom Challengers will not be able to be completed. Indian Wells, Miami Masters, Monte Carlo Masters, Barcelona Open are cancelled. The ATP will announce later (perhaps in the next couple o...

What a huge missed opportunity for Siddharth. And that ends the week for him with the doubles loss to Dustin Brown and partner.

Re: M15 ITF India (Kolkata, Gurugram) Mar 9-22

Going back to the India F12 from 2015, this was part of a series of 5 Futures hosted in Tamil Nadu. After beating Manish, Faisal Qamar lost the final qualifying round to Zach Itzstein of Australia (then at his career-high ranking of 898). Unfortunately we didn't report on the qualifiers in our threa...

Re: M15 ITF India (Kolkata, Gurugram) Mar 9-22

He is 20 years old, a fortnight older than Manish Sureshkumar. They played in Q1 of the India F12 Futures in the last week of August 2015, and unseeded Faisal defeated 6th seeded Manish 75 75. My guess is that he is the son of a "marker" at South Club (or one of the other clubs in Calcutta -- Tollyg...

Re: M15 ITF India (Kolkata, Gurugram) Mar 9-22

Faisal Qamar hardly plays professional tournaments. But in 2015, when he and Manish were both 15, they played each other once, and Faisal won!
