Re: Commonwealth Games 2010 - New Delhi
All important financial matters were handled by a Finance Committee full of IAS officers. The Executive Board, the highest decision making body contained two representatives each from the Centre and the State Govt, Mike Fennell and Mike Hooper, apart from Kalmadi and Co. Nothing would have been appr...

Re: Asian Games 2014 - Incheon
It is not clear which are the 28 Olympic sports. London 2012 will have only 26. Does this mean the 28 from Beijing? Or will it mean London 2012 (26) plus any other two from the recognised IOC list? In that case, dance sport could be in!

Re: Sports and Performance Enhancing Drugs (Doping)
Yes, indeed from India. My base, Delhi. The India ones could also mean the recent spurt of doping in India and the resultant rush to google search. From pre-CWG days to the present, from Jan 2009 to be precise, when NADA took over testing, we have had a constant flow of doping news. Subsequently, pe...

Re: Sports and Performance Enhancing Drugs (Doping)
Interesting. I never realised this, though when I search I normally search for 'doping gene' or 'doping blood,' or 'doping, athletics' etc. Here's a list of what I am getting: 1. Doping 'in sports' 2. Doping 'in sports in India' 3. Doping 'in India' 4. Doping 'in Indian sports' 5. Doping 'Chinese', ...

Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...
I was thinking that more like 70% of the international-class athletes have doped at some point or another. That could be true, if we take "some point or the other" . With stringent measures in place, I tend to believe that the testers might have cut that percentage down drastically during...

Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...
If people continue to watch these games where it really is about who has access to better spinach; rather, access to better beating the test schemes, then let the athletes do whatever they please. I don't care to watch these events at all. Does the same problem permeate the swimmers as well? No nee...

Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...
Prashant, I wasn't looking at the possibility or otherwise of Semenya competing in London. I was just making a comment about taking that timing with a pinch of salt. I feel, it should actually be a kilo of salt. I am not sure, even with her gender equations, someone could have jumped from 2:04.23 (P...

Re: ASIAN GAMES 2010 nov 12th to 27
What are you guys basing this trajectory on? At what age do what 800m runners peak generally? I am guessing the later question how much of an endurance event 800m actually is since you do improve on that count as you become older. Looking at the times frm the beijing olympics, it appears to me that...

Re: Sports and Performance Enhancing Drugs (Doping)
CERA ( a type of EPO) was tested retro-actively in the Beijing Olympics. If I remember correctly, around 900-plus samples were tested again in Beijing and they had six news cases including 1500m champion Rashid Ramzi of Bahrain, former Moroccan. I wonder how much an organisation like OCA or CGF woul...

Re: Sports and Performance Enhancing Drugs (Doping)
...What about THG or other designer human growth hormones that was rampant at least in the U.S. among baseball players (see Balco & Barry Bonds)? The US and world agencies did not have good tests to catch this in the early '00s. Are our labs world-standard and catch these things? Or can the Ukr...

Re: Sports and Performance Enhancing Drugs (Doping)
Jay: If our athletes only took the spinach for pre-competition development/ preparation/ muscle-building etc like many other athletes are doing, then I should not look at them as potential cheaters anymore. If they are stupid to take a stimulant that gives them an even further advantage over the oth...

Re: Sports and Performance Enhancing Drugs (Doping)
Atithee: Why so much hue and cry about Indian athletes? Everyone else does it, Indians just haven't mastered the art of testing. I say, again, make this stuff legal, except the really bad, and let "Stupid is as Stupid does" take care of it. I hear this quite often in my profession. They al...

Re: Sports and Performance Enhancing Drugs (Doping)
Andy Miah has been a great advocate of "controlled doping" over the past decade. Here's an interview with him. He argues vehemently in favour of doping, at different fora; has written many articles and gives lectures on the subject apart from other ethical issues: http://www.hplusmagazine....

Here's an article in LA Times, Oct 2007 I am posting only a portion of it since it is an archived one and does not come free, and I guess, we are not allowed to post full articles here. Here's the link to site that can allow you to purchase it. http://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/latimes/access/1364759571.h...
