Re: Doc's Near Death Experience
C'mon Doc! That would be the good thing to hear, not the worst! :) You are right Ajay, but I wrote it from a physician's perspective. All doctors hate to be proven wrong and I will use my mentor, former Chairman and former Dean to illustrate this point. I had been playing tennis regularly with this...

Re: Doc's Near Death Experience
Best of luck on your surgery! When you check back into the forum in a week or so, Somdev's India would have crushed Tpe in tennis and Dhoni's India would have reminded the Kiwis why they are named after a fruit!!! Thanks Arjun and everyone else for their best wishes. The last time I was finally tak...

Re: Doc's Near Death Experience
Ajay, There are many causes of cold sweats, for example Virus, Infection, Flu, Anxiety, Heat exhaustion, Severe pain, Migraine, Menopause, Hypoglycemia, Hypotension, etc besides heart attack. In my case, I immediately checked my pulse and it was weak and that told me that I was in bigger trouble. I ...

Re: Doc's Near Death Experience
Gautam, Take advice from a good Internist or a cardiologist and not from someone who takes care of children with serious infections :D . HDL (good cholesterol) can be raised by doing regular exercise and dietary changes. If it is still low, a physician may prescribe you a medicne that raises your HD...

Re: Doc's Near Death Experience
Hi Omkara, The good news is that those people who have a strong family history of heart attacks (felt to be genetic in nature) can reduce their risk significantly by eliminating other risk factors of heart attack. My suggestions would be: 1. Get regular check-ups from a physician who is an expert on...

Re: Doc's Near Death Experience
The last thing I expected was a heart attack. When I went to the hospital with heart attack on Jan 10, 2009, my cholesterol level was 150 and the ratio of good versus bad cholesterol was well below normal. My triglyceride level was only 50 and I walked 2 miles a day, went to the gym and played tenn...

Re: Doc's Near Death Experience
Thanks for all your prayers and keeping me in your thoughts. My heart surgery is scheduled for Monday March 2, 2009 and it should last about 4 to 5 hours. The surgery will involve removing the device that was put in the heart to create a new wall (septum) between the two upper chambers of the heart;...

Re: Doc's Near Death Experience
I am back in Tulsa for the past few days and it sure feels great to sleep in my bed after 5 weeks of stay in two hospitals. Yesterday I went for my first cardio rehab session at my hospital. Once I am strong enough, I will undergo heart surgery to repair the septum between the two upper chambers and...

Top Ten Excuses. Written by Varma
Hi Varma,
Your list is so good that my wife and I were laughing so loud that the nurse came to my room to see if everything was ok. Hats off to you.
You made my day.

Re: Doc's Near Death Experience
At Baptist Medical Center, Oklahoma City: Part I I reached Baptist Medical Center via a medical helicopter at about 5:30 pm on 12th January and the team of doctors headed by Dr James Long, MD, Ph.D. started working on me. My family and friends drove to OKC after picking up supplies from home. I had...

Re: Doc's Near Death Experience
ICU Stay in Tulsa: After angioplasty and the episode of V-tach (ventricular tachycardia), I went into cardiogenic shock (heart was unable to maintain adequate blood pressure) and my kidneys stopped working. The physicians were puzzled because no form of treatment was working. It took a day to figur...

Re: Doc's Near Death Experience
Rightly said Doc. However, one question remains - who is this "I" who is going to make it?? Is it the body, mind, intelligence or something else... With due respect to you, your profession as well as my wife (also a physician), modern science has not yet reached the point where the differ...

Re: Doc's Near Death Experience
Thanks for your kind words and prayers. One week back I could not even stand and today I just came back to my room after doing 2 hours of physical training (riding a stationary bike, doing hand bike, climbing stairs, walking, light weights, etc). My wife and I used to do an hour of treadmill/station...
