Re: India in New Zealand 2022

The worst type of selection is to pencil juniors in for sure even though they have not proved themselves. Or seniors despite their being obviously downhill. This is what got us Pant and DK in the T20Is. It is another matter that the oldies were the worst top-order in the tournament. I would rather t...

Re: India in New Zealand 2022

That is wrong. His SR is about 110 or 111 if you round up. His average is indeed 48, which is great, especially at that run rate. However, it is over only 10 dismissals. Small sample size as with SAY. Last 3 years, he has 14 dismissals at 45 at a SR of 112, which is also pretty good. I do not have q...

Re: Chess: World Team Championship 2022, Jerusalem

How would we do if we used only top-5 players from each country? Given that we have 5-6 players in the top 30, it should not be terrible.

Re: India in New Zealand 2022

Small sample bias for SKY in ODIs. Yes, small but not very small. He has had 11 completed innings. Okay, give him 4 more. Given the number of people we have who are promising candidates, we need to be fair to people. Pant has been acceptable as a wicket-keeper batsman. Very borderline if we want to...

Re: India in New Zealand 2022

Why is SKY playing in these matches? Wouldn’t Samson be the ideal replacement for him? Not sure why Dhawan is in the team, let alone being the captain. We just reward people for seniority. Like Ashwin playing the T20 World Cup as a reward for not playing the WTC (or something like that). SAY should...

Re: India in New Zealand 2022

The right thing would be to drop Dhawan and play Sanju. Of course, we lost the first ODI because we choose some of our crappiest bowlers to represent the country. Arshdeep: no wickets, Runs/over: 8.32 Malik: 33@6.6 Shardul: 34.1@6.44 DLC: 24.66@6.01 DLC is a wicket-taker and deserves a place with hi...

Re: India in New Zealand 2022

We opened with two of our proven failures and had an awful opening partnership. New players that are not really new. These guys have shown us that they cannot bat (at least as of now). Same old crappy selection = same old crappy execution. Whatever you say about Iyer he is not wasting balls. Hit out...

Sorry, am I getting the convention wrong? d - defeated, l - lost to. The color and the score is right. Should this be "l" instead of "d"?

Re: ATP Tennis/Non-India Davis Cup

Thanks for hunting it down. I am interested in anytime during the year rankings but it is more difficult to check. The year-end is fewer in number. Here is an article that says that the U.S. was the only country to have had both a #1 and #2. article and you identified two instances of that Sampras-A...

Re: ATP Tennis/Non-India Davis Cup

I checked Sampras-Agassi, which was the most obvious to me, and they were #1 and #2 at some point. The rest I'll have to check too.

Re: T20 World Cup, 2022

Axar arguably may be a worse batter than Ashwin and a worse bowler in Aussie conditions. We decided to have only three bowlers who are #10-11s and were reluctant to add a 4th. The better option would have been to play a bowler who can bat a la DLC instead of Shami but they thought Shami would be a w...

Re: Asia-Australia ATP Challengers 2022

Very soon, Ramk will be the first guy ever to play doubles on his own ;-) Will they use the rules that we use in our amateur play? Doubles court for the singles person and the singles court for the doubles people. :-)

Re: Asia-Australia ATP Challengers 2022

but probably left the court with a heavy heart.... I don't think so. I think Ramk's mind is warped. He truly thinks he is right. All the time. And, so he perhaps left feeling frustrated that people are not listening to him when obviously the ball was in. I mean he saw it in his own eyes and these o...

Re: ATP Tennis/Non-India Davis Cup

Alcaraz is #1 at 19 and Nadal is #2 at 36. Of course, the asterisk is COVID-induced sacking of Djokovic at the Aussie, arguably his favorite slam. But, life is life. Two trivia questions: 1. Is this the biggest difference in age between a #1 and a #2 - almost 17 years save one month? 2. Was there a ...
